The Shadows of Fate have been taking over the Sea of Thieves! Thanks to some mischievous skeletons, Shadows of Fate have been allowed to cross over from the Sea of the Damned!
Larinna has done her best to continue the Festival of the Damned festivities despite the threat from the Shadows of Fate looming over the event.
Each week Larinna has offered a new challenge for festive pirates to partake in. Completing goals within each of these challenges unlock the new Soulflame weapon cosmetics.
While some of the goals are more lighthearted, other goals were designed to help Larinna exterminate the of Shadows of Fate from the Sea of Thieves.
No other challenge is a better showcase for this plan than the Slayer of Fate challenge. This challenge has two goals which will have you and your crew dispatching hundreds of Shadows of Fate.
The first goal, Apprentice Slayer of Fate, requires you defeat 200 Shadows of Fate. Upon completion, you will unlock the Soulflame Lantern.
The second goal, Master Slayer of Fate, requires you defeat 400 Shadows of Fate. When you slay your 400th Shadow of Fate you will unlock the Fated Slayer of Dauntless Fury title. The first 200 for the previous goal count towards this goal.
Where to find Shadows of Fate?
So where can you find Shadows of Fate to defeat? There are two main ways that will be worth your while!
Fate of the Damned Voyages
There are three different Fate of the Damned voyages that Larinna is selling in the Black Market. Each voyage offers the opportunity to kill at least a dozen Shadows of Fate.
The advantage of choosing to do the Fate of the Damned voyages is that the voyages are very low-key. Unless someone ran into you doing the voyage or read your voyage table, they wouldn’t know what you were up to. You can sail from island to island completing the voyage and slaying Shadows of Fate without a big beacon of activity giving you away.
If you get stuck trying to help Duke or Merrick while doing the Fate of the Damned voyages, we have written walkthroughs of each which you can find below.
Fate of the Damned Week 1 Voyage Guide
During The Search for Wild, Plentiful Shadows of Fate you will help Duke find his special grog, hunt down Bilge Rats and defeat the Ghost of Graymarrow. You will also have the opportunity to kill a dozen or so green and purple Shadows of Fate.
Fate of the Damned Week 2 Voyage Guide
During The The Hunt for Hidden, Ancient Shadows of Fate you will help Merrick find Old Stompy, locate missing Bilge Rats and send the Ghost of Graymarrow back to the Sea of the Damned. You will also have the chance to kill so white and blue Shadows of Fate.
Fate of the Damned Week 3 Voyage Guide
During In Pursuit of Prowling, Devilish Shadows of Fate you will find a clue in a wreck, discover Bilge Rat remains and stop a ritual bringing Shadows of Fate into the Sea of Thieves. You will also come across nearly a dozen red and pink Shadows of Fate waiting to be slain.
You do have another option if you are looking to defeat dozens of Shadows of Fate at a time. This other option is the much less forgiving Fort of the Damned!
Fort of the Damned
The Fort of the Damned is a player-activated World Event that will have you fighting waves upon waves of Shadows of Fate. If you and your crew are able to complete every wave of the Fort of the Damned, you can walk away with roughly 100 Shadows of Fate kills.
This method will allow you to kill many more Shadows of Fate at a faster rate than the Fate of the Damned voyages. Though, you are at a much higher risk of other pirates swooping in to take the active Fort of the Damned from you.
If you like the high stakes, head on over to our Fort of the Damned guide here. It will walk you through every thing you need to know about how to activate the fort and what to expect while you fight the waves of Shadows of Fate.

Does it still counts towards progression if one of my crewmates kill the Shadows of Fate instead of me?
Yes, if your crew kills the Shadows of Fate it will count for you 🙂
