UPDATE: You can now complete the mystery and unlock The Fallen Sea Dog commendation!
The first mystery in the Sea of Thieves is still underway! The death of DeMarco, the famed Sea Dog, is still unsolved, and we have yet to bring his killer to justice!
The dedicated detectives of the Sea of Thieves have continued to search for answers and recently discovered new clues, including an exclusive mystery-related cosmetic you can earn: Lesedi’s Spyglass!
How to get Lesedi's Spyglass
To get Lesedi’s Spyglass, you first want to sail to The Crooked Masts in The Wilds. You can find The Crooked Masts at the map coordinates O11. Once there, go to the cave on the island’s South side. You will find a skeleton in a hanging cage near the cave exit to the West.

Walk up to the cage, and you will see a prompt to reach inside. Interact with the prompt to receive Lesedi’s Spyglass.

Head to your ship to equip your newly acquired spyglass. You can find it in your Equipment Chest under the Spyglass section.

Once you have the spyglass equipped, use it, and you will see a skull and cutlass symbol with a cracked X on the lens. Unfortunately, we have yet to figure out how to use the spyglass to help solve the mystery.
Based on a similar symbol found on the Trickster’s Spyglass, it appears we will need to use the spyglass to line up the symbol with physical landmarks and dig in the area the cracked X covers.
If your crew makes any new discoveries with the spyglass, be sure to leave a comment below! Your findings could help us get one step closer to solving the case!
Fall Sea Dog Lantern
If you haven’t retrieved the Fallen Sea Dog Lantern yet, the first mystery-related cosmetic, sail on over to Sea Dog’s Rest! This short walkthrough will lead you right to where the lantern resides!

I think it’s related to skull keep.
Interesting! We like the way you are thinking!
If you use the spyglass and look at the sun you see more markings. If you look in the sun’s direction with a rock in-between you see it more clearly.
Not sure if it’s the silhouette of an island/s or something else at this stage…. Watch this space!
Whoa, you are right! Interesting…
What do you think it is
I see an overhead silhouette of what looks like kraken’s fall on mine
I wondered if it was thieves haven as the skull silhouette looks similar….but I imagine it’s not an island as it would be too hard to get the correct perspective on the map – the x would be in a huge area in the sea and hard to know where to go depending on level of zoom.
I think it’ll be a landmark that looks like the shape of the scratched eye of the skull. I’ve looked over crooked masts and can’t seem to see any rock that looks like they scratched eye. I looked at the skeletons hand to see if it points anywhere useful (no luck).
Wondering what the significance of the sun revealing the image …..perhaps a rock with the sun on it? Crooks Hollow?
It may function like the other spyglass – and just not have the clues implemented yet
we’ll keep digging/thinking 🙂
I don’t know if it’s of any importance, but I noticed the etching on the spyglass looks a lot like the Rogue Sea Dog Flag. Maybe that’s something?
It does!
Mermaid hideaway one of the trails matches the eye
Oh yeah? On the beach or on the hills to the West?
Where DeMarco died, there’s a N in coins, could that have anything to do with it?
Perhaps N could be for a name, or could stand for North
It was part of the “prisoner” message I think
On Smuggler Bay, on the Arch there’s a R in coins too, maybe on other islands we can find the other letters to obtain the island name to use the spyglass
So I was sitting on crooked masts for a while, trying to think about what to do, and then i started hearing a lot of background noise. First, there was some creepy mystery music, second, there were random ferry and death sounds, and last, which I found the most confusing, was that there was the sound of a ship battle going on after about three in game days. Like I mean I could here everything. Boarding, steering, damage, cannons firing, repairing, and more death sounds. It was trippy.
maaan the same happened to me but in wanderer’s refuge. it was so scary!
