One of the many commendations you can complete during The Journey to Mêlée Island Tall Tale is the ‘Prison Break’ commendation. You can start working on the commendation once you arrive at Mêlée Island during this Tall Tale.

If you are just looking to complete ‘Prison Break’ and free Otis, your first step is to make your way to purchase the cook a meat stew! You’ll need to purchase the Chef’s Uniform before you can cook the stew. If you need help with obtaining the Chef’s Uniform, check out our guide for getting it here!
How to free Otis
To free Otis, you must blow the locks on his jail cell with Gunpowder Gummies and Gunpowder Fuses. To get the Gunpowder Gummies you’ll need to feed Root Beer Stewed Meat to the piranha poodles, and you’ll need to purchase the Gunpowder Fuses.
Make Root Beer Stewed Meat
While wearing the Chef’s Uniform, head inside the Kitchen in the Scumm Bar. Go to the Chef’s table and dice the Onion. Once you have diced it, put it in the boiling pot near the table. Do the same to the Leek on the table. Then, grab the Hunk o’ Meat on the other table and add it to the boiling pot.
Next to the locked door is the Caniche Mordant Flower on a shelf. Pick it up and add it to the boiling pot. Then, add the Root Beer Sprinkles from a shelf in the Kitchen to the boiling pot.
Finally, pick up the Kitchen Door Key and use it on the locked door. Walk out on the small jetty behind the Kitchen, equip your Fishing Rod, and cast it to catch a Red Herring. Add the Red Herring to the boiling pot, and you will complete the dish!
You can now take the Root Beer Stewed Meat from the pot.
Feed Piranha Poodles
Pick up the Root Beer Stewed Meet and go to the Alley. Place the meat in the dog bowl in front of the piranha poodles, and they will soon dispatch Walt. With Walt gone, grab the Pair of Gunpowder Gummies he left behind.
Blow up the jail cell lock
With the Gunpowder Gummies in hand, head to the Jail. Place a Gunpowder Gummy in the lock of the jail cell belonging to Otis. We’ll now need to detonate them!
Go to the General Store and purchase the Gunpowder Fuses for 70 Pieces o’ Eight. Then, return to the Jail and place a Gunpowder Fuse in each lock.
Next, equip and raise your Lantern at the end of the fuse to light it. The jail cell doors will blow, and Otis will be free!
