The Sanctuaries of the Banished hold more than just piles of Banished Ancient Treasure. Pirates brave enough to defeat an Eternal Guard, acquire a Sanctuary of the Banished Key, and open up a Sanctuary will also find a powerful and poisonous weapon, a Trident of the Banished!
Trident of the Banished
The Trident of the Banished is a non-loadout weapon that can fire poisonous projectiles. The trident’s projectiles can damage pirates, enemies, and wild creatures.
The Trident of the Banished shares many similarities with the Trident of Dark Tides, as it is an enhanced variant of the Trident of Dark Tides with poisonous effects.
Similar to the Trident of Dark Tides, you can charge the projectile into three sizes: small, medium, and large. As the projectile charges, its direct hit damage will increase, and its travel speed will decrease.
While the direct damage from the projectile increases as it grows, the poison effect remains constant between all three sizes.
Upon impact, the projectile will inflict damage and then continue to poison the target with Venom, similar to a bite from a Snake. The poison from the projectile does not stack. Instead, it will just refresh the effect.
How to use a Trident of the Banished
Unlike loadout weapons, you can pick up and drop the Trident of the Banished. You cannot store it in your Armoury.
Once you pick up a Trident of the Banished, you can aim it by holding down the Left Trigger or the Right Mouse Button.
You can charge the projectile it fires by holding down the Right Trigger or the Left Mouse Button. The longer you hold, the more it will charge, and the larger the projectile will grow.
To fire the projectile, release the Right Trigger or the Left Mouse Button. The projectile will fly through the air and detonate on impact with terrain, pirates, or enemies.
Each projectile will deal direct damage as well as inflict lasting poison effects. However, the amount of direct damage depends on the size of the projectile.
Small Projectile
The small projectile is the fastest of the three sizes and is easier to fire than a small projectile from the Trident of Dark Tides. The small projectile can also travel the farthest. However, it deals the least direct damage.
The small projectile is so fast that it can catch up to and hit a medium or large projectile you previously fired, causing it to detonate.
Medium Projectile
The medium projectile moves slower than the small but faster than the large projectile. It also inflicts more direct damage than the small but less than the large projectile.
If you are familiar with the Trident of Dark Tides, you will find it takes the same time to charge as a Trident of Dark Tides medium projectile. However, the Trident of the Banished medium projectile is larger and moves more slowly.
Large Projectile
The large projectile deals the most direct damage. However, it moves the slowest of the three sizes.
Compared to the Trident of Dark Tides, the large projectile from the Trident of the Banished takes the same time to charge and is larger. However, like the medium projectile, it moves more slowly.
Where to find a Trident of the Banished
You can find Tridents of the Banished inside Sanctuaries of the Banished. To open a Sanctuary of the Banished, you must acquire a Sanctuary of the Banished Key by defeating an Eternal Guard.
