During their excavation for Sanctuaries of the Banished, the mysterious client also unearthed ancient sarcophagi. Inside each one is a fearsome Eternal Guard, waiting to be awakened. Defeating one will not only award you with a Sanctuary of the Banished Key, but also allow you to complete several Secrets of the Banished Commendations.
Where to find Eternal Guards
You can randomly find Eternal Guards on large islands across the Sea of Thieves. While you can find them in any region, you have a higher chance of finding one in The Devil’s Roar. You’ll only ever find one per island. We’ve found sarcophagi on Fetcher’s Rest, Flintlock Peninsula, Ruby’s Fall, and Ashen Reaches.
As you explore a large island, look for a patch of purple smoke billowing around a stone sarcophagus. You’ll also want to listen for ethereal music that grows louder as you approach the sarcophagus.
Once you find a sarcophagus, approach it and light three flames on it to complete the summoning ritual and wake the Eternal Guard. It will soon appear ready to fight! Make sure you create some distance between you and the sarcophagus after lighting the third flame, as the Eternal Guard will create a damaging blast upon its arrival.

The Eternal Guard is a challenging enemy that will throw Hunting Spears, fire Poison Darts, and throw Poison Bombs. Upon defeat, it will reward you with a Sanctuary of the Banished Key you can use at any of the three Sanctuaries of the Banished.
