One of the many commendations you can complete during The Lair of LeChuck Tall Tale is the “A Helping Hand” commendation. You can start working on the commendation as soon as you arrive at Monkey Island during this Tall Tale.

If you are just looking to complete “A Helping Hand” and place all three Monkey Idols on the Monkey Hand, your first step is to make your way to Monkey Island!
A Helping Hand Commendation
To complete the “A Helping Hand” commendation and place all three Monkey Idols on the Monkey Hand, you’ll need to recover all three Monkey Idols on Monkey Island. To retrieve all three, you’ll need to find the Buried Monkey Idol, free the Caged Monkey Idol, and reach the Totem Monkey Idol.
Once you have a Monkey Idol, you can place it on the Monkey Hand in the pond just South of the swamp.
Buried Monkey Idol
To find the Buried Monkey Idol, you must first retrieve Herman’s Rowboat Map from Herman’s Chest. Once you find the Rowboat Oars, you can use the rowboat to collect the Buried Idol Map from the hanging skeleton in the swamp. Following the Buried Idol Map, you will find the location of the Buried Monkey Idol. Dig at the X depicted on the map, and you will discover one of the three Monkey Idols.

Caged Monkey Idol
To free the Caged Monkey Idol, you must first find a way into Herman’s Stockade. Once inside, you’ll need to loosen up the Antique Cannon and use it to shoot down the mast holding the Caged Monkey Idol. Once the Caged Monkey Idol is on the ground, you can use a Gunpowder Gummy and the sun’s reflection to blast open the cage, freeing one of the three Monkey Idols.

Totem Monkey Idol
To reach the Totem Monkey Idol, drop a boulder from the top of the island onto the Primitive Art. If you’ve rotated the Primitive Art correctly, it will fling the boulder at the Monkey Totem holding the Monkey Idol. The Monkey Totem will then break and drop the Monkey Idol. Walk over to the Monkey Totem and pick up one of the three Monkey Idols.
