So you’ve sailed to the Sea of the Damned and made it back to tell the tale! You are now hidden to the Sunken Kingdom to find Captain Jack Sparrow’s compass!

There are a total of five different journals to find throughout this Tall Tale. You’ll find two inside the Spire and three inside the Citadel.

You don’t need to worry about looking for journals in the Black Pearl. Or outside the Spire or the Citadel.

Finding all five of the Cursed Captain’s journals will unlock the Pieces of Silver commendation.

If you are looking for a guide to walk you through the Tall Tale and the remaining commendations, head on over to our The Sunken Pearl guide here.

Discover the Journals of the Silver Blade's Captain

You can find two of the journals in the Spire. You will find the remaining three in the Citadel. Be sure to grab the two in the Spire before leaving and entering the Citadel, as you won’t be able to return to get them without starting over.

A Run of Good Luck

After you break through your first airlock inside the Spire by hitting the pink flower, you will enter a tall room that will require you to solve three Siren Statue puzzles. On the ground floor of this room, face North. Behind wooden debris and under the purple rock formation is the journal.

A Run of Good Luck, by Dimitri of the Silver Blade

When I was young, I learned not to believe in fate and fortune. The roll of the dice is decided not by unseen forces, but by the bumps and knots of the tabletop.

But since the day we four made it to the Sea of Thieves and found this ship, the Silver Blade, just waiting for us to claimer her… I’ve not been so sure.

She must have been recently salvaged by the merfolk, I suppose, like so many other lost ships. Not that we knew that when we chose to board her.

The ship was completely deserted, though we learned a little of her first crew from notes left among their belongings – who knew Flameheart ever had a son?

We took the vessel for ourselves, of course, on that first lucky day. And today, if the map in my hand is worth the gold I paid, will be our luckiest day yet…

An Ancient Mystery

After solving all three Siren Statue puzzles in the Spire, the water will rise high enough for you to progress out of the room. Before you leave, swim along the outer walls of the room to find the journal. It will be in the East corner of the chamber next to red rocks.

An Ancient Mystery, by Dimitri of the Silver Blade

When most people talk about the Ancients that used to live around here, they always act like they were so… high and mighty. Wise, mysterious, all of that.

I dunno. Sometimes I think they could be properly nasty, just like everyone else. Especially when it came to protecting their really special treasures…

Well, their vault was no match for us, not even with all its tricks and traps. We looted the lot, and believe me, this isn’t your usual pile of treasure!

There was a huge pile of bones atop the hoard, for one thing. Who knows, maybe Madame Olivia and her Weird Sisters will pay us for them.

I’m more interested in that great big chest locked up in my cabin. It’s got a face, which weeps constantly, but so long as it’s valuable I’ll live with wet feet.

Unwanted Company

After opening the large Citadel door with a Siren Heart, you will enter a large room with two distinct pieces of a shipwreck.

The left piece of shipwreck is where you will want to investigate for the journal. You’ll find it lying in the middle of it.

Unwanted Company, by Dimitri of the Silver Blade

In all the years I’ve kept a journal, I’ve never seen a Skeleton Ship be that persistent! They rose from the deep almost as soon as we left the vault behind.

I’ve heard rumors of skellies going after treasures before. Something tells me they were hunting for that vault too, and we only just beat them to it.

Well tough luck, bone-brains, it’s finders keepers out here on the seas. We lured them past one of their own Forts and left a few Gunpowder Barrels bobbing…

That gave us a chance to get away, but since then we’ve spotted two more Skeleton Ships, both of which made a beeline for us! Can’t be a coincidence.

Whatever we’ve got on board, the skellies clearly think it’s valuable. Time to head out into open waters and work out what to do next…

From Bad to Worse

From the Unwanted Company journal, take the only exit from the room to the far left and swim up the tunnel. After you break the airlock and swim past it, immediately hang a right and swim down the hole located in the Southside of the chamber.

Going through the hole will take you to a new chamber with one piece of a shipwreck in it. Swim towards the shipwreck piece to find the journal you are looking for lying on it.

From Bad to Worse, by Dimitri of the Silver Blade

We sailed far away from any islands and lost sight of any Skeleton Ships, which meant we had no way to offload any of these treasures to the Companies.

I’d never seen skeletons chase us so doggedly and was starting to wonder if they might even be brave enough to attack an Outpost and steal our ill-gotten prizes.

That was when I heard the crying coming from my cabin. The chest I’d stashed away in there had slipped my mind, but it clearly didn’t want to be forgotten.

Great rivulets of tears were still streaming from that face carved on the lid of the chest. The cursed thing had flooded half the ship while we were distracted!

The crew are taking it in turns to bail, but it’s the noise that gets me. You’ve never heard anything so mournful, so…hopeless. I swear it keeps getting louder…

Don't Look for Us Journal

You can find this journal in a large chamber in the Citadel. After you solve several Siren Statue puzzles, you’ll come across a chamber that requires you to use a pulley to progress.

This pulley will lower a C-shaped piece of shipwreck. Jumping on the C-shaped piece of shipwreck before it raises again will gain you access to another piece of shipwreck high up in the chamber.

Inside the Captain’s Cabin of the high-up shipwreck is the journal.

Don’t Look for Us, by Dimitri of the Silver Blade

If anyone finds this, stop reading now and RUN. Read the rest later on very, very dry land. Just GO!

I can’t believe we thought they were merfolk… They surrounded the ship, scratching and clawing. Started to sing, just like the chest. A Deadly harmony…

They’re dragging us down. I’m locked in my cabin but those weapon…things…will break through soon. They have the Silver Blade now. They have us.

I hope you never find the Silver Blade. If you do, it means it’s already too late. A dark legend has found you.

You belong to the Sirens.

  1. There are 4 books that I have found: 1 is in the spire that is entered through the cave where you do the first mermaid puzzles. The second is immediately after opening the giant mermaid door, it is hard to see but it is on the pieces of ship there. The third I have found is after clearing out the large room with the bramble-like blockade at the top, you need to go down a water tunnel to a new piece of the ship and the location is fairly obvious. the fourth is the one is in “Do Not Look for us” those are the only ones I have found and I have been unable to complete the tall tale because for some reason I am able to be queued into the same instance as someone else and the entire game breaks.

    1. I’ve also noticed that other people can be down there with you and swim around, interact with the mermaid statues, and I’ve even heard them doing some stuff, which if I did’t already know what was coming next, would have been spoilers.

Cheers! Thank you so much for sharing. This will be super helpful for every pirate trying to do this Tall Tale. We see a couple we hadn’t come across yet. Would you mind if we use your pictures in the guide in the meantime?

      1. Here are some added pictures for From Bad to Worse journal, with some more description. I also included the commendation for the Tale of Eternal Sorrow which follows encryptions or writings on the wall.

If I may ask, how do you become an author? Would love to contribute more than just this.

So have you raised the water level three times? After you do, don’t climb out of the water just yet. Swim around and look for red rocks. You’ll find the journal nearby the rocks in a corner of the room in the water.

    1. After you enter the first big room where journal three is, you will find a room with a puddle in it. If you swim in that puddle just before you use the pulley for the next door, there will be the next shipwreck. The pictures will be updated soon.

Sorry, we are still looking for it ourselves. That one was submitted by a helpful community member 🙂

Oh awesome! Thank you 🙂 It’s in the Citadel right? Not the Spire? It’s after the large door with five gems on its head?

  2. All of the Hidden Carvings are in the Siren King’s throne room. It unlocks the ‘Tale of Eternal Sorrow’ commendation. There are five carvings on the walls in the room.
