The Reaper’s Chest has existed a while now in the Sea of Thieves. Pirates who frequent the sea should recognize the red and green swirling lights on the horizon as a beacon leading them to this valuable chest.
What all pirates will find new and unusual in the Sea of Thieves is a beam of swirling yellow and gold lights. This new glittering pillar of gold is a signal to all pirates that there is a new Reaper’s Bounty up for grabs!

What is the Reaper’s Bounty?
The Reaper’s Bounty is very similar to the Reaper’s Chest. It is a rare and extremely valuable treasure chest that is constantly relaying its position to every pirate on the sea.
You can easily spot the difference between the two just by looking at them. The Reaper’s Chest sported a cold hard gray top while the Reaper’s Bounty has a sleek shiny gold top.
Another difference between the Reaper’s Chest and Reaper’s Bounty is its payout. Instead of giving 25 doubloons for a successful turn in, a Reaper’s Bounty grants you 25,000 gold!
UPDATE: Since the Crew of Rage update in February 2020, the Reaper’s Bounty is worth 10,000 gold instead of 25,000 gold.
The Box of Wondrous Secrets just got some competition!

Where do you find Reaper’s Bounties?
Similar to Reaper’s Chests, Reaper’s Bounties spawn in the hulls of shipwrecks.
They spawn at random times in random shipwrecks so you won’t be able to anticipate when a Reaper’s Bounty will appear.

Also similarly to the Reaper’s Chest, Reaper’s Bounties are inside the Fort of the Damned vault. The Reaper’s Bounty adds an additional 10k worth of gold to an already lucrative haul of loot!

How do you find Reaper’s Bounties?
While the Fort of the Damned is one guaranteed way to find a Reaper’s Bounty, as mentioned above another is random chance.
Swirling Lights
When a Reaper’s Bounty has spawned and has not been touched by another pirate, you will spot swirling golden lights in the air.
These swirling lights can be seen anywhere in the world of Sea of Thieves just as Skull and Ship Clouds.
The Reaper’s Bounty emits the pillar of gold from inside a randomly spawned shipwreck until it is picked up.

The Map Table
Just because you don’t spot the shiny gold in the sky doesn’t mean there isn’t a Reaper’s Bounty out in the wild just waiting to be stolen.
When any pirate touches a Reaper’s Bounty, the pillar of light will disappear. However, the icon on the Map Table indicating the location of the Reaper’s Bounty will stay.
If you are on the hunt for a Reaper’s Bounty, be sure to scan your Map Table far and wide in case someone happens to be carrying one aboard their ship.

Where do you turn in the Reaper’s Bounty?

Turning in a Reaper’s Bounty to the Servant of the Flame will net you 10,000 Gold. There are several commendations attached to turning in Reaper’s Bounties.
