You will want to think twice the next time you dive into the waters of the Sea of Thieves. Sirens, a new underwater threat, now lurk below and have made the sea a much more dangerous place!
What are Sirens?
Sirens are underwater threats that appear from deep below the waves. They might look like mermaids at first glance but are much more menacing. Don’t expect them to ferry you back to your ship.
They can swim in almost all directions in the water and usually appear in groups.
Their ominous song foreshadows their arrival. You will most likely hear them before you see them. However, once your ear does catch their eerie tune, be on guard as they will soon attack!
Dying to a Siren will also award you with Blue Flame of Fate, similar to dying from a shark.
Types of Sirens
There are two types of Siren you can encounter in the water: Sirens and Siren Leaders.
Sirens
The most common form of Siren you will find. While they are weaker than their Leader counterpart, they are still dangerous!
Siren Leaders
Siren Leaders are the most challenging type of Siren and wield The Trident of Dark Tides!
Don’t expect these Sirens to get in close for a Scratch attack. They will instead use the Trident of Dark Tides to their advantage with range attacks.
The Leaders can better utilize the power of their Siren gem to heal faster. They also deal more damage to nearby players while healing.
Siren Abilities
Sirens come with a wide range of new abilities that no other foe in the Sea of Thieves poses.
Scratch
If a Siren is within arm’s length of you, prepare to be Scratched! Sirens will swim up to you and begin a ferocious flurry of scratches.
Don’t worry! You are not entirely defenseless against this attack as you can block Scratches with your cutlass.
Siren Song
Sirens use the power of song to launch a projectile towards you that deals damage on impact.
Disorientate
Sirens dash out of sight and reappear somewhere else nearby! You will need to keep a close eye on their trail as they can reappear in any direction!
Heal
Sirens channel the power of the gem found in their chest to regenerate their health. This ability not only restores their health but deals damage to any nearby player who gets too close!
The gem in the center of each Siren’s chest will display their health.
Where can you find Sirens?
Sirens can be found anywhere below the water’s surface in the Sea of Thieves as well as during the new A Pirate’s Life Tall Tales.
To encounter them, you’ll want to swim in the water below the surface.
Spawning
You can expect two to three Sirens to spawn per player in your crew.
While swimming in the Sea of Thieves, you can expect Sirens to spawn emergently, similar to how sharks appear. As Sirens lurk in the depths, you will most likely encounter Sirens when swimming below the waves.
Shipwrecks are a particular hot spot for Sirens, similar to sharks…
Siren Rewards
You have a chance of recovering a Siren Gem from defeated Sirens. Like Mermaid Gems, Siren Gems can be sold to any Trading Company Representative for Reputation and gold.
Unlike Mermaid Gems, Siren Gems have a dark corruption that has grown inside of them.
You can expect base Sirens to have a chance of dropping Sapphire gems, while Siren Leaders have a chance to drop Emerald Siren Gems that are higher in value.
