The fiery hot Season 18 Community Weekend has hit the Sea of Thieves. To participate in the festivities, you’ll be sailing through The Devil’s Roar in search of Ashen Messages in Bottles to work on a Community Spirit Goal and an individual Challenge. There is also Pop-Up Plunder to find, Community Emissary Grades to achieve, Picture Walls to pose in front of, and more!
Season 18 Community Weekend
The Season 18 Community Weekend Event takes place from 11 am UTC Saturday, January 31st, to 11 am UTC Monday, February 2nd. During the Event, you can claim login bonuses, contribute to a Community Spirit Goal, complete an individual Challenge, partake in Pop-Up Plunder to find rare treasures, earn boosted rewards, and pose in front of Picture Walls!
Login Bonuses
Starting with login bonuses, simply setting sail anytime during the Season 18 Community Weekend will earn you the Season 18 Community Weekend Flag and the Rising Wave Emote.
You’ll find the Flag in your Ship Customization Chest and Emote in your Vanity Chest after you’ve unlocked them.
Community Spirit Goal
The Community Spirit Goal will have you and your fellow pirates completing 250,000 Ashen Message in a Bottle Voyages! Once the community achieves the Goal, anyone who participated by completing at least one Voyage over the Community Weekend will unlock the Meridian Hunter Double Barrel Pistol.
To help contribute, you’ll want to complete X Marks the Spot Quests you receive from Ashen Messages in Bottles. You can find Ashen Messages in Bottles randomly on islands in The Devil’s Roar. You’ll need to sail the High Seas to find them.
Don’t worry if the community reaches the Goal before you can finish an Ashen Message in a Bottle. You’ll still get the Pistol if you complete a Voyage before the Event is over.
Ashen Messages in Bottles
Ashen Messages in Bottles are red bottles that can appear randomly on any island in The Devil’s Roar while sailing the High Seas. You cannot find the bottles in Safer Seas.
The Ashen Messages in Bottles glint bright red from a distance, making them easy to spot as you sail by islands or explore shorelines. Any pirate with any experience can collect one.
Roar of Fortune Goal
To complete the individual Goal, the Roar of Fortune, you must sell a Chest of Fortune you find from an Ashen Message in a Bottle Voyage, Pop-Up Plunder, a Devil’s Roar Buried Treasure Stash Map from the Quest Board, and the Molten Sands Fortress.
While you are guaranteed to find a Chest of Fortune inside the Molten Sands Fortress Vault, you have a small chance of finding one from an Ashen Message in a Bottle Voyage, Pop-Up Plunder, and Buried Treasure Stash Map in The Devil’s Roar.
Selling one Chest of Fortune will complete the Goal and reward you with the Devil’s Fortune Seeker Title.
Community Emissary Grade
Watching Sea of Thieves streams on Twitch will help raise the Community Emissary Grade. The Community Emissary Grade affects the multiplier used to boost the Gold, Reputation, Renown, and Allegiance you can earn in-game.
The more you and your fellow pirates watch Sea of Thieves streams, the higher the Community Emissary Grade will rise. Emissary Grade 5, the max Grade, applies a 2.5 multiplier on all rewards!
You can check the current Community Emissary Grade on the Events menu in-game.
Pop-Up Plunder
After setting sail, you’ll want to watch the Sea of Thieves social channels for clues on where to find Pop-Up Plunder!
Pop-Up Plunder is a piece of high-value treasure that you can dig up periodically throughout the Community Weekend. You can expect to dig up Ashen Chests of Legends, Chests of Fortune, Collector’s Chest of Broken Emissary Flags, and a Collector’s Chest of treasure for the various Trading Companies. You can even discover a Box of Wondrous Secrets!
Every time Pop-Up Plunder becomes available, you’ll receive an in-game toast and a Pop-Up Plunder Quest Note to notify you. The Pop-Up Plunder will only be discoverable for a limited time, an hour, to be precise, after being announced.
You can find out where the latest Pop-Up Plunder is throughout the weekend here or by following the dedicated Pop-Up Plunder interactive map marker!
Picture Wall
The festively decorated Picture Walls return! Like previous Community Weekends, a celebratory Picture Wall will appear on every Outpost for you and your crew to pose and take pictures in front of. There’s even one at The Reaper’s Hideout!
Each Picture Wall also features a Community Emissary Flag that displays the current Community Emissary Grade.
Community Spirit Firework Crate
And finally, you can collect a Community Spirit Firework Crate, free of charge, from any Merchant Alliance representative. You only get one Crate per pirate, so make sure you grab yours when you have time to use it!
