A mysterious group of pirates, the Smugglers’ League, has sailed in from unknown waters and infiltrated the Sea of Thieves. You might not notice their presence immediately, as they have hidden themselves in the darkest corners of the sea.
However, the valuable and dangerous cargo they brought along has started to appear washed up on island shorelines, inside shipwrecks, and aboard emergent Skeleton Ships.
If you are brave enough, you can even help them smuggle their treacherous cargo between islands for a handsome reward!
Smugglers' League
The Smugglers’ League is a Faction in the Sea of Thieves that you can deliver specific Smugglers’ League treasure to. As they are not a Trading Company, they don’t offer Reputation, the ability to sail as their Emissary, or Emissary Ledgers.
However, the Smugglers’ League treasure is very valuable, so you don’t need an Emissary Flag multiplier to plenty of Gold by delivering their treasure.
Smugglers' League Hideouts
As the Smugglers’ League would rather hide in the shadows than be center stage, you won’t find them on any Outpost. Instead, the Smugglers’ League representatives have hidden themselves in six permanent Smugglers’ Hideouts across the Sea of Thieves.
You can find a Smugglers’ League representative in their Hideout in one of the prominent caves on the following islands:
- Solomon in the main cave on Smugglers’ Bay
- Lottie in the Southern cave on Crescent Isle
- Ix in the Northern cave on Crook’s Hollow
- Wei-Lin in the Southern cave on Plunder Valley
- Kidir in the Southern cave on Old Faithful Isle
- Leander in the Southern cave on The Crooked Masts
Each Hideout has traps near their entrance, ensuring only the most cunning of pirates can enter!
If you need help finding the closest Hideout, you can quickly scan your Map Table for a Smugglers’ League icon below an island with a Hideout.
Smugglers' League Treasure
The Smugglers’ League deals in treacherous treasures that no other Trading Company is brave enough to touch. These treasures include:
- Black Powder Barrel
- Crate of Floral Fate Rum
- Crate of Dark Demise Rum
- Crate of Golden Greed Rum
- Classic Paintings
- Refined Paintings
- Exquisite Paintings
- Smugglers’ Chronicles
To find Smugglers’ League treasure, you’ll want to search island beaches for Smugglers’ Caches, Smugglers’ Shipwrecks, and emergent Smuggling Skeleton Ships.
While you can find most of the Smugglers’ League treasure randomly while adventuring through the Sea of Thieves, there are a couple of pieces that you’ll need to embark on the daring Smugglers’ Route Run Voyage to acquire!
To determine where to sell the treasure, you’ll need to inspect each piece. If it says you can deliver to a Smugglers’ League Representative, then you can sell it to any one of the six Smugglers’ League Representatives. However, if it gives you a specific name and island, you will have to deliver it at that particular Hideout.
Smugglers' Route Run Voyage
The Smugglers’ Route Run is a single-chapter Smugglers’ League Voyage that will have you delivering several pieces of cargo from one Hideout to another. Specifically, you’ll need to successfully ferry a Black Powder Barrel, Refined Painting, and Crate of Dark Demise Rum between two islands marked on the Map Table for all to see.
You’ll not only have to defend yourself from other pirate crews, but Phantoms and Skeleton Ships looking to take the loot for themselves!

Black Powder Barrel
The Black Powder Barrel is one of the deadliest explosives you can find on the Sea of Thieves. It deals more damage than a Stronghold Gunpowder Barrel and has a wider blast radius.
Since it deals such a large area of damage, the fuse is longer than standard Gunpowder Barrels. It has a 10-second fuse, giving you plenty of time to stay clear after lighting it!
You can find Black Powder Barrels in Smugglers’ Caches, Smugglers’ Shipwrecks, Smuggling Skeleton Ships, and Smugglers’ Run Voyages.
Reaper's Bones Rowboats
You’ll be finding more than just Smugglers’ League treasures on island beaches as you explore the sea. You may also discover Reaper’s Bones Rowboats on shorelines.
Each Reaper’s Bones Rowboat has a reinforced Gunpowder Barrel strapped to the back of it. So, on top of the rowboat having a Cannon or Harpoon attached, it also has an explosive weapon for you to use on any unsuspecting crew. You can damage the reinforced Gunpowder Barrel or ignite its fuse to detonate it.
