A mysterious buyer has reached out to the Smugglers’ League to locate and acquire one of the deadliest weapons in the Sea of Thieves, the Black Powder Barrel. Too dangerous for the other Trading Companies, you’ll work with the Smugglers’ League to ferry this devastating treasure across the Sea of Thieves.
Black Powder Barrel
A Black Powder Barrel is an explosive Smugglers’ League treasure that you can randomly find across the Sea of Thieves or during Smugglers’ League Voyages.
The Black Powder Barrel deals more damage than a Stronghold Gunpowder Barrel and has a wider blast radius. Due to the large area of damage, the fuse is longer than the Gunpowder Barrels. The Black Powder Barrel has a 10-second fuse, allowing you plenty of time to stay clear after you’ve lit it.
Similar to Gunpowder Barrels, you can bury it, ignite it, extinguish it with the Horn of Fair Wind, grapple it, and detonate it with enough damage.
However, unlike Gunpowder Barrels, it has a longer fuse, a larger blast radius, is held vertically, blocking more of the pirate carrying it, and is more damage resistant.
The Black Powder Barrel can take 200 damage before detonating. So, you must slash it with your Cutlass eight times before it will explode.
Where can you find Black Powder Barrels?
You can find Black Powder Barrels randomly in Smugglers’ Caches, Smugglers’ Shipwrecks, and Smuggling Skeleton Ships. You can also find them from the Smugglers’ Route Run Voyage and Smugglers’ Messages in Bottles.
Emergent Skeletons you encounter on islands can also wield Black Powder Barrels.
Where can you sell Black Powder Barrels?
You can sell Black Powder Barrels to Smugglers’ League representatives on Crescent Isle, Smugglers’ Bay, Old Faithful Isle, The Crooked Masts, Crook’s Hollow, and Plunder Valley. You’ll need to inspect the Black Powder Barrel by interacting with it to find exactly which of the six representatives you must deliver it to.
If it says you can deliver to a Smugglers’ League Representative, then you can sell it to any one of the six Smugglers’ League Representatives.
How much is the Black Powder Barrel worth?
As the Smugglers’ League doesn’t have Reputation or Emissary, the base value of the Black Powder Barrel is much higher than most treasure. You can expect to receive 15,000 Gold for each Black Powder Barrel you sell.
