No longer are the sounds of rattling bones the only indicator of impending danger. New fearsome foes have made their way on land! While they share the lack of life with skeletons, Phantoms are a more agile land-based threat. They also have a few tricks up their sleeves that are sure to keep even the saltiest of pirates on their toes!

What are Phantoms?

Phantoms are a new land-based threat! They are skilled pirates that have left their mortal form behind, allowing them to fight more robust than ever before.

Their range of unnatural abilities allows them to dart and dash about the field performing fast-paced attacks. They fight with fast-paced “hit and run” tactics, bolstered by their ghostly abilities.

Phantoms use speed and numbers to overwhelm enemies. While they are fast and agile, they do not have a lot of health. You can expect to kill them more quickly than skeletons.

Phantoms can also be stun-locked. While fast, catching a Phantom with your sword can be favorable.

Phantom Weapons

Phantoms are veteran pirates who have spent an eternity in the afterlife have become skilled with each of the weapons found in the Sea of Thieves. You can expect Phantoms to switch between ranged weapons and even pull out a cutlass during a fight.

Phantom Abilities

Teleport

Phantoms can blink in and out of existence to cover great distances. They can even teleport in quick succession, making it difficult to land a hit. Try your best to listen for them finishing their teleport so you can inflict damage.

Teleport Charge

A deliberate and aggressive string of teleports chained together to directly attack an opponent. The phantom wields its cutlass and can be seen winding up the attack as it zips towards its victim. Stop it in it’s tracks!

Phantoms disorientating players during a teleport charge will now pause for longer as they approach, allowing players to stagger them and engage.

We have doubled the “pause” in each teleport pose to allow players a more enticing window of opportunity to shoot/strike the phantom in order to stagger it. The length of time their stagger has also been doubled, if you do manage to hit them during this charge. Another opportunity for attack!

Lunge

You are not the only one who can lunge with your cutlass. Phantoms can also rush towards you with a devastating attack. Though, if you are able to dodge, you can take advantage of their vulnerability with a follow up attack.

Where can you find Phantoms?

Phantoms can be found anywhere on land in Sea of Thieves as well as during the new A Pirate’s Life Tall Tales.

To encounter them, continue on your adventures and you are sure to come across them on the islands you explore.

Phantom Spawning

Phantoms will spawn occasionally on islands, ambushing players and providing a new challenge to face as you go about your pirate business.

The amount of Phantoms that spawn is dependent on your crew size.
