Anglers across the Sea of Thieves can now use the trusty Hunting Spear, a weapon purpose-built to combat the various deadly creatures that roam the sea.
Hunting Spear
The Hunting Spear is a non-loadout weapon you can throw by hand or fire from a Cannon. Hunting Spears can damage pirates, enemies, and ships but are most effective against wild creatures such as Sharks, Megalodons, and Krakens.
You can also use a Hunting Spear to deal more damage than usual to Skeleton Captains, Skeleton Lords, and Ocean Crawlers.

Throw
Throwing a Hunting Spear at a pirate will deal 100 damage, instantly killing them. However, its boosted power against wild creatures means it can deal enough damage to kill a Shark and stop a charging Megalodon with a single blow.
You can quickly throw a Hunting Spear a short distance or fully charge it, allowing you to throw it a longer distance.
The Hunting Spear is single-use, so if you hit your target, the Hunting Spear will break and disappear upon dealing damage. However, if you miss your shot, you can retrieve it and use it again. Like the Throwing Knife, the Hunting Spear will get stuck in any solid surface you throw or fire at, allowing you or another pirate to collect it.

Cannon
Firing a Hunting Spear from a cannon will increase its damage and power, allowing you to defeat pirates in one shot. Just like throwing a Hunting Spear, you can prevent the charging attack of a Megalodon with one Hunting Spear fired from your ship’s Cannon.
Most importantly, firing a Hunting Spear from a Cannon is also powerful enough to pierce the side of a ship.
If someone shoots your ship with a Hunting Spear, you must pull the spear out of the small hole before you can repair it. However, removing the Hunting Spear will cause the small hole to turn into a large hole, allowing more water in at a faster rate.
If you leave the Hunting Spear in your ship, another hit from a Cannonball will dislodge the spear, leaving a large hole in its place as if you removed it yourself.
You’ll need to be mindful of what you are firing out of your Cannon as you can plug a hole created from a Cannonball with a Hunting Spear, slowing the water flow into the ship you are attacking. However, shooting a Hunting Spear into a large hole will still let more water in than a Hunting Spear just lodged into a small hole.

How to use the Hunting Spear
To use the Hunting Spear, hold down the Left Trigger on the Controller or the Right Mouse Button to raise the Hunting Spear and aim with your other hand.
You can throw it right after aiming or hold down the Right Trigger on the Controller or the Left Mouse Button to charge your throw. The longer you hold the button, the more charge you’ll build, and the farther the Hunting Spear will travel.
When you are ready to throw, let go of the Right Trigger or Left Mouse Button to hurl the Hunting Spear and send it flying.
In a close-quarters situation, you can quickly throw the Hunting Spear without aiming and charging your shot by pressing the Right Trigger or Left Mouse Button. However, the Hunting Spear will travel a short distance.

Where can you find Hunting Spears
You can purchase Hunting Spears from any Hunter’s Call representative or find them randomly throughout the Sea of Thieves. Specifically, you can find them washed up on island beaches, inside Shipwrecks, and from defeating Krakens, Megalodons, and Skeleton Ships.
The Hunting Spear will glint white, making it easy to spot from a distance.
Similar to Resources you can purchase, there is a cooldown you’ll have to wait for when buying Hunting Spears. You can purchase five at a time per crew.
Unlike the Trident of Dark Tides, you can take the Hunting Spear with you when you dive to Voyages or Hourglass Faction Battles.
You can sell Hunting Spears to the Hunter’s Call, Reaper’s Bones, and Sovereigns.
