While Crouching is a great way to sneak around a rival crew’s ship, you might suddenly be cornered without anywhere else to hide. Luckily, you can always vault yourself over the ship’s side and hang from a ledge out of sight! Hanging from ledges is another stealth mechanic you can utilize at sea while Crouched.
How to Hang from Ledges
While Crouching, you can find specific hanging spots around each ship type and unique locations on islands that you can hang from, similar to spots where you can sit. However, you can only see the prompt to hang and interact with the hanging spot while Crouched.
Once you approach a hanging spot, Crouch and interact with the “Hang from Ledge” prompt. You will vault your pirate over the side and hang from the ledge, hiding from your enemies. You will switch to a third-person perspective while hanging, allowing you to see what’s above you. If you hang over a ship’s ledge, you can watch the deck for pirates walking by.
As you must be Crouched to access a hanging point, you cannot use the hanging points to board ships from the water.
While hanging, your Nameplate will remain hidden, just like when you were Crouching. While snooping pirates can still discover you if they look over the ship’s side, enemies such as Skeletons, Phantoms, and Ocean Crawlers will not know your whereabouts. As Skeletons will not be able to see you, you can hang over the side of a Skeleton Ship for a free ride across the sea.
You can climb back on board the ship or let go and fall from where you are hanging.
Like sitting points, if you take damage while hanging, the damage will knock you off the ledge.
To prevent mixing interactions, you cannot interact with sitting spots while you are Crouched. If you want to sit, you should be standing. And if you want to hang, you should be Crouched.
Ship Hanging Spots
As each ship is differently shaped and size you will find a different amount of hanging spots per ship. You can find six hanging spots on a Sloop, four on a Brigantine, and ten on a Galleon. All the hanging spots are on the deck near the middle of the ship or by the helm and bowsprit.
