Your favorite debauchery-filled event is back! Yep, that’s right! It’s time to celebrate the one and only, Grogmanay!
During this year’s Grogmanay, there are cosmetics to earn, Fireworks to set off, and of course, tankards of grog to drink!
If you want to earn the new cosmetics, you’ll have to complete Grogmanay Challenges set forth by the Bilge Rats. While the Challenges might look easy at first glance, don’t forget you’ll first have to down three tankards of grog before completing any of them!
If it’s the Fireworks your after, you’ll want to speak with Larinna. She will be selling a time-limited voyage that will lead you to a stash of Bile Rat-inspired Fireworks!
And if you are looking for some grog to drink, look no further than that keg on your ship, you silly pirate!
What is the Grogmanay Event?
The Grogmanay Event contains six Challenges for your crew to complete. Each one requires your pirate to be drunk while performing the actions necessary to complete the Challenge. To officially be drunk in the Sea of Thieves, you will need to drink three tankards of grog in quick succession.
If your vision is blurry, you hear ringing in your ears, and you are uncontrollably hiccuping, burping, and throwing up, you’ll know you are the proper amount of drunk.
These Challenges are not repeatable like some Challenges in other events, so you only need to complete the Challenge’s requirements once.
You also don’t need to complete the Challenges in one sitting. Instead, you can work on them over several sailing sessions.
Completing every Challenge will earn you every possible cosmetic the Grogmanay event has to offer. And there is one, in particular, you’ll want to be sure you collect: the upgradable Grogmanay Annual Tankard!
How to Upgrade Your Tankard
One of the several cosmetics you can earn during this year’s Grogmanay event is the Grogmanay Annual Tankard! This Tankard is one of the more unique cosmetics you can have in the Sea of Thieves. You see, the Grogmanay Annual Tankard is upgradable!
Each year during Grogmanay, you will have the opportunity to upgrade your Tankard, which will change its appearance. For each Grogmany you participate in, you will add a notch on the side of your Tankard.
Participate in one Grogmany event, and you will earn a Tankard with one notch. Participate in two Grogmanay events, and your Tankard with one notch will have two notches.
With the notches visible on the side of your Tankard, you can show off how many Grogmanay’s you’ve celebrated.
Everyone who played during Grogmanay last year will automatically receive a Grogmanay Annual Tankard with one notch before the event starts. So, if you played last year and have your Tankard, you have the opportunity to earn yourself another notch. To do so, you’ll need to complete four Grogmanay Challenges.
Those who weren’t around last year for Grogmanay can work towards their first Grogmanay Annual Tankard that will have one notch.
What are the Grogmanay rewards?
If you participate in the Grogmanay festivities, you can earn yourself Bilge Rat Celebration cosmetics, the Grogmanay Annual Tankard, and the event-exclusive Celebration Celebrity Title!
If you complete one Grogmanay Challenge, you will earn the Bilge Rat Celebration Tattoo.
If you complete two Gromanay Challenges, you will earn the Bilge Rat Celebration Makeup.
If you complete four Gromanay Challenges, you will earn the Grogmanay Annual Tankard.
And finally, if you complete all six Grogmanay Challenges, you will earn the Celebration Celebrity Title.
How long is the Grogmanay Event?
The Grogmanay event runs from December 27th to January 11th. That gives you about two weeks to earn all the possible rewards!
Free Grogmanay Event Flag
Larinna is giving all players who visit her a free Grogmanay Event Flag. Simply visit Larinna at any Outpost and browse her stock. From there, you can purchase the Grogmany Event Flag for zero gold.
You’ll want to equip this flag as you sail the sea to let other pirates know you are celebrating the holiday!
Firework Stash Voyage
When you visit Larinna to grab your free flag, you might spot a new voyage: the Firework Stash Voyage!
The Firework Stash Voyage consists of an X Marks the Spot quest. The quest will lead you to a crate of time-limited Bilge Rat Celebration Fireworks!
If you haven’t completed any Grogmanay Challenges yet, you will see that you cannot purchase the voyage. To buy the voyage, you must first complete a Grogmanay Challenge.
For each Challenge you complete, you can acquire another voyage. As there are six Challenges, you can buy the voyage up to six times.
To successfully complete the Challenges in this event, you’ll need to be three grogs deep, wait until the inevitable effects take hold and then use that brief time to tackle Challenge before the grog wears off!
Make sure your pirate has started to throw up before performing the Challenge requirements!
Stay clear of deep water until you are completely sickly drunk. Being fully submerged in water will sober your pirate up if you haven’t drained all three tankards of grog.
A Staggering Success
Drink three tankards of grog, then dig up treasure chests while you’re still sick. Keep the grow flowing to succeed.
To complete this Challenge, you will need to dig up three different Gold Hoarder chests while your pirate is drunk. Gold Hoarder chests include Captain’s, Marauder’s, Seafarer’s, and Castaway’s Chests.
As you only have so much time before your pirate sobers up, you’ll want to make sure your dig site is close to your source of grog. Of course, those without a Chest of a Thousand Grogs will be using the keg on their ship. If that is the case, a small island with easy to reach Xs on the beach will be ideal.
Purchase and vote on Gold Hoarder voyages until you find a quest with a small island. Then, sail to that island, drink three grogs back to back, and dig up that treasure.
After digging up three chests, you will have completed the Challenge.
If you are not having any luck with Gold Hoarder voyages, you can always use the Quest Board to grab a quest for a small island there. Any chests you dig up from a Treasure Stash map will count for this Challenge. As long as you dig up a Gold Hoarder chest while drunk, you are good to go.
Dropping the Ball
Drink three tankards of grog, then hit an enemy ship with cannonballs while you’re still sick. Keep the grog flowing to succeed!
To complete this Challenge, you need to hit an enemy ship three times with cannonballs while drunk. You can shoot either a pirate crewed ship or Skeleton Ship for this Challenge.
To work on this Challenge, you’ll first need to find a ship. Once you have found a pirate crewed ship or a Skeleton Ship, grab some cannonballs from your Cannonball Barrel and run down below deck to your keg. Quickly drink three tankards of grog and then run back up to your ship’s cannons. Once the grog has blurred your vision and you have started to vomit, fire away at the enemy ship!
If you can hit the ship three times, you will have completed the Challenge.
Drink three tankards of grog, then defeat Ocean Crawlers while you’re still sick. Keep the grog flowing to succeed!
To complete this Challenge, you’ll need to kill 10 Ocean Crawlers while your pirate is drunk.
Ocean Crawlers can be found randomly on islands as you roam the sea. You’ll want to be on the lookout for any Ocean Crawlers on the beach of any islands you pass.
When you have found some Ocean Crawlers to kill, quickly drink three tankards of grog and begin your battle. Killing any of the three different Ocean Crawlers while your pirate is throwing up will give you credit towards completing this Challenge.
Drink three tankards of grog, then defeat skeletons using firebombs while you’re still sick. Keep the grog flowing to succeed!
To complete this Challenge, you’ll need to kill 20 skeletons with Firebombs while drunk.
You’ll first want to get your hands on some Firebombs. Firebombs can be found randomly in Resource Barrels throughout the Sea of Thieves. Your ship also comes stocked with several in your Cannonball Barrel.
Once you have some Firebombs, it’s time to go hunting for skeletons. Of course, you can always find skeletons randomly on the islands you visit during your adventures. Although, it might be easier to find a guaranteed group of them by going on an Order of Souls Bounty Voyage!
Once you have a group of skeletons, lead them down to the beach, where you have your ship parked. Jump on your ship and go to your keg. Quickly drink three tankards of grog back to back and head back to the skeletons. You’ll want to throw your Firebombs and kill the skeletons before the grog wears off.
Dinner and Drinks
Drink three tankards of grog, then capture a chicken, pig and snake while you’re still sick. Keep the grog flowing to succeed!
To complete this Challenge, you’ll need to capture a chicken, pig, and snake while drunk.
You’ll first want to acquire a Chicken Coop, Pig Crate, and Snake Basket. You can find them randomly on islands throughout the Sea of Thieves or get them by purchasing and voting on Trade Good Commission voyages from the Merchant Alliance.
Once you have one of each kind of crate, it’s time to hunt down the animals. You can randomly find Chickens, Pigs, and Snakes on different islands as you sail the sea. Of course, you can always use your handy interactive map to see where each of the three land animals lives. You can turn on the markers for each animal in the “Filter” menu to locate the closest island where you’ll find them. Remember, you have a better chance of seeing animals on larger islands!
Once you are at the island, quickly drink three tankards of grog back to back, grab your crate, wait to throw up, and capture the animal you need!
Chunder the Sea
Drink three tankards of grog, then defeat a shark while you’re still sick. Keep the grog flowing to succeed!
To complete this Challenge, you’ll need to kill one shark while drunk.
Sharks can be found randomly in open water. You can easily find one by swimming in the water for a short period. Simply being in the water should attract sharks.
If you are still struggling to find a shark, you can sail to the closest shipwreck. Sharks are more likely to appear near wrecks.
Once you have a shark in the water, hit it with your cutlass or firearm a couple of times. Be careful not to kill it, though! Not yet! Damaging the shark a bit will make it easier to kill it while drunk.
After doing some damage, jump on your ship and head to the keg on board. !quickly drink three grogs back to back and jump in the water with your weapon ready. Once your pirate’s vision is blurry and starts to sway back and forth while throwing up, kill the shark.
