Jot down yer email, and we’ll be sure to let ye know when there’s something new on the horizon.

The spooky season is here, and that means it is time once again to honor the great Ferryman. This year, Larinna and the Bilge Rats have cooked up a four-week-long event to celebrate the Festival of the Damned titled the Fury of the Damned!

As pirates have come to expect from the beloved holiday, new spine-chilling cosmetics are up for grabs for anyone who participates in the festivities.

To unlock most of the cosmetics, you will need to earn Favour by completing specific supernatural activities. However, to obtain some of the most coveted cosmetics the event has to offer, you’ll need to participate in a couple of community-wide collaborative Challenges!

So put on your scariest outfit and head out to sea to tackle fiendish forts, fight ghostly Phantoms and smash ghoulish skeletons.

What is the Fury of the Damned Event?

The Fury of the Damned event consists of three different sets of repeatable Challenges that reward Favour and two global Challenges that the entire community must work on together to complete.

Repeatable Challenges

During the Fury of the Damned event, the Bilge Rats will award you with Favour each time you complete a repeatable Challenge from the event. Think of earning Favour as earning points.

Once you have met certain point thresholds, the Bilge Rats will reward you with unique spider-inspired cosmetics!

The curated list of fourteen Challenges are split into three different sets of Challenges.

The first set of Challenges, Fires of the Damned, revolves around the Flames of Fate.

The second set of Challenges, Ships of the Damned, will have you focused on sea-based threats.

And the third set of Challenges, Armies of the Damned, will have you turning your attention to land-based threats.

Although you’ll need to complete Challenges to acquire Favour points, there is no requirement that you complete all of the Challenges or complete any particular Challenge. Even better, the Challenges are repeatable. So, you can choose to complete whichever Challenges you prefer, as many times as you like, to collect Favour.

Earn more Favour in an Alliance!

You can also complete many of the Challenges while in an Alliance, which will reward bonus Favour! Two times the Favour, to be exact!

Manage to sink a Skeleton Ship? You’ll earn 10 Favour. Manage to sink a Skeleton Ship while in an Alliance? You’ll earn 20 Favour!

Form Alliance

Earn even more Favour!

While you can complete whichever Challenges you wish whenever you like throughout the event, you will want to take advantage of another Favour bonus opportunity.

On top of the extra Favour you can earn for completing Challenges in an Alliance, you can earn even more Favor depending on when you are completing particular Challenges.

Each week of the event, a different set of Challenges will have an active Favour bonus attached to it. So any Challenge you complete in the set with the active bonus will award two times the Favour!

During the first week of the event, the Flames of the Damned will have a two times Favour bonus. So, during the first week, each time you kill a Shadow of Fate, you will earn two times the Favour.

During the second week of the event, the Ships of the Damned will have the two times Favour bonus. And during the third week of the event, the Armies of the Damned will have the two times Favour bonus.

During the fourth and final week of the event, all three sets of Challenges will have the multiplier applied so you can focus on whichever Challenges you prefer.

If you use the weekly Favour bonus correctly, you can earn up to four times the Favour if you combine it with the Alliance Favour bonus.

Double Favour

Community Spirit Challenges

On top of the repeatable Challenges, Larinna is also challenging crews with two community-based Challenges.

To complete these global Challenges, you and your fellow pirates will need to destroy a hefty amount of skeletons across the Sea of Thieves.

Should the community complete the first collaborative Challenge, killing 50,000,000 skeletons, everyone who participated will earn the Wicked Web Figurehead.

If the community flies through that Challenge and defeats 150,000,000 skeletons, completing the final community Challenge, everyone who participated will earn the Wicked Web Collector’s Figurehead!

To officially participate and be eligible for the rewards, you must kill at least ten skeletons during the event.

How long is the Fury of the Damned Event?

This event will be live between October 7th and November 4th 2021.

What are the Fury of the Damned rewards?

Completing the repeatable Challenges and earning enough Favour will reward players with the Wicked Web Blunderbuss, Tankard, and Cannons.

Earn 500 Favour to unlock the Wicked Web Tankard.

Earning 1000 Favour will unlock the Wicked Web Blunderbuss.

If you manage to earn 2000 Favour, you will unlock the Wicked Web Cannons.

Throughout the entire event, the community can also work on completing the community-wide collaborative Challenges. Completing these challenges will reward players with the Wicked Web Figurehead and Wicked Web Collector’s Figurehead.

You can preview the rewards by speaking with Larinna and browsing her stock.

What are the Fury of the Damned Challenges?

There are a total of fourteen Challenges that reward Favour upon completion. These Challenges are spread between three different sets of Challenges, each focusing on a different kind of threat facing the Sea of Thieves.

Almost all of the Challenges are crew-based, and many offer additional Favour if completed in an Alliance.

Week 1: Fires of the Damned

The first set of Challenges are focused on Flames of Fate, Shadows of Fate, and the ominous Fort of the Damned!

Earn a fair amount of Favour by...

Sailing miles with the ship’s lanterns carrying Flames of Fate. Collect more colours of Flame for more Favour. Do so in an Allaince for extra Favour!

UPDATE: This Challenge has been removed from the event. It might still be fun to use the Flames of Fate to turn your ship into a party ship though!

You will earn 1 Favour for each Flame of Fate on your ship for each mile you sail.

You’ll first want to collect a Flame of Fate from the Well of Fates on the Ferry of the Damned. Then, once you re-enter the Sea of Thieves, be sure to set one of your ship’s lanterns with your recently acquired Flame of Fate with your lantern.

Sailing nautical miles with Flames of Fate set on your ship’s lanterns will earn you and your crew Favour. To personally earn the Favour, you must be on the ship yourself to get credit while the ship is moving. You won’t receive credit if you are off on an island while your ship is sailing the sea.

The more colors you have, the more Favour you will earn. You will earn Favour for each different color you have on your ship for each mile you sail. So, to earn the maximum amount of Favour for this Challenge, light all six colors on your ship!

Set Lantern Flame Pink

Earn a fair amount of Favour by...

Defeating Shadow of Fate Skeletons at the Fort of the Damned. Do so in an Alliance for extra Favour!

You will earn 1 Favour for every Shadow of Fate you defeat.

There are very few places you can find Shadows of Fate skeletons throughout the Sea of Thieves.

One way is by completing an Athena’s Run of Thieves’ Haven voyage. You will find two Shadows of Fate during the voyage.

Another, more efficient way is by taking on an active Fort of the Damned. While completing the player-activated World Event, you’ll find dozens of Shadows of Fate to defeat.

There are six types of Shadows of Fate, one for each Flame of Fate color. To successfully slay a Shadow of Fate, you’ll need to make it vulnerable by shining the corresponding Flame of Fate with your lantern near the skeleton. Once they are vulnerable, you can use your cutlass, firearm, cannons, and other weaponry you would use on normal skeletons.

For each Shadow of Fate you or your crew destroys, you will earn a fair amount of Favour.

Shadows of Fate

Earn a huge amount of Favour by...

Defeating the Ghost of Graymarrow at the Fort of the Damned. Do so in an Alliance for extra Favour!

You can find the Ghost of Graymarrow on the final wave of the Fort of the Damned World Event. This version of Graymarrow has lots of health and can be extremely difficult to defeat. To make it more manageable, lots of veteran pirates lure the Ghost of Graymarrow down to the docks of the fort and utilize their ship’s cannons against him.

You will earn Favour as soon as you or someone in your crew deals the final blow and send the Ghost of Graymarrow back to the Sea of the Damned!

Earn a good amount of Favour by...

Completing any standard Daily Deed during the Fury of the Damned Event.

You will earn 25 Favour each time you complete a standard Daily Deed.

Every time you complete a Standard Daily Deed you will earn a good amount of Favour. You can view which Daily Deeds are available to work on by going to the Season Four section in the Pirate Log.

From there, navigate to the Events section and you’ll see where you can find the Daily Deeds.

The activities you’ll come across as you work on the Daily Deeds range from eating raw meat to completing a voyage purchased from a Trading Company.

Earn a fair amount of Favour by...

Acquiring a Flame of Fate from the Ferry of the Damned. Do so in an Allaince for extra Favour!

You will earn 5 Favour each time you collect a Flame of Fate from the Ferry of the Damned. You can only collect each color flame once per 24 hours to receive Favour.

You can collect a Flame of Fate from the Ferry of the Damned after dying in a specific way.

The six different Flames of Fate are Green, Blue, Purple, Pink, Red, and White.

You can earn each Flame of Fate in the following ways:

  • Green = Death by Skeleton/Phantom/Ocean Crawler
  • Blue = Death by Shark/Siren
  • Purple = Death by Snake Venom or Hermit Poison Gas
  • Pink = Death by Pirate
  • Red = Death by Fire
  • White = Death by Lightning or Eel-ectric Chain Stun

Once you die from any acceptable method, you will arrive on the Ferry of Damned and can collect the Flame of Fate from the Well of Fates.

We have a detailed guide on the best ways to earn each of the Flames of Fate here.

One of the easiest Flames of Fate to earn is the red one, as you can obtain it quickly on your own.

Simply damage yourself from falling off the crow’s nest or from a Blunderbomb until you have less than a third of your health left. Then, throw a Firebomb at your feet, and you will die from the fire.

Collect your red Flame of Fate from the Well of Fates, and you are ready to light one of your ship’s lanterns!

Take flame from Well of Fates

Week 2: Ships of the Damned

The second set of Challenges are focused on destroying Ghost Ships, Skeleton Ships, and the mighty Burning Blade.

Earn a fair amount of Favour by...

Destroying a Ghost Ship. Do so in an Alliance for extra Favour!

You will earn 1 Favour for each Ghost Ship you destroy.

Ghost Ships can be found during an Order of Souls Ghost Ship voyage or during the Burning Blade World Event. Defeating Ghost Ships from either will count and award Favour.

To find Ghost Ships during a voyage, speak to an Order of Souls representative at any Outpost. Purchase the Ghost Ship voyage from the representative and vote on the voyage at your ship’s voyage table. You will receive a quest that will tell you which island the Ghost Ships are haunting. Sail there, destroy some Ghost Ships and rack up some Favour!

To find Ghost Ships during the Burning Blade World Event, keep an eye out for the giant Flameheart cloud in the sky. Underneath this cloud will be dozens of Ghost Ships just waiting to be sent back to the Sea of the Damned!

Ghost Ships

Earn a good amount of Favour by...

Destroying Flameheart’s flagship, the Burning Blade. Do so in an Alliance for extra Favour.

The Burning Blade can be found during the fourth and final wave of the Burning Blade World Event. Look for the giant Flameheart floating in the sky and you’ll find Ghost Ships to sink. Keep destroying the Ghost Ships until the Burning Blade appears. The Burning Blade has a heart on its sails and takes 20 cannonballs to defeat.

If you are looking for some tips and tricks while fighting the armada of ghost ships, be sure to check out our guide here.

Earn a fair amount of Favour by...

Sinking a Skeleton Ship. Do so in an Alliance for extra Favour!

You will earn 10 Favour for each Skeleton Ship you sink.

Skeleton Ships can be found emergently roaming the seas or during the Skeleton Fleet World Event. Defeating Skeleton Ships from either will count.

You will most likely run into at least one emergent Skeleton Ship during any adventure in the Sea of Thieves. If you see a ship on the horizon and it has different color flashing lanterns on it, it is probably a Skeleton Ship.

To find Skeleton Ships during the Skeleton Fleet World Event, keep an eye out for the giant Ship cloud in the sky. If you sail to it you will find yourself in a three wave battle against several Skeleton Ships. Sinking each one will award you with Favour.

Skeleton Ship

Earn a fair amount of Favour by...

Handing in Crates of Ancient Bone Dust to the Merchant Alliance. Do so in an Alliance for extra Favour!

You will earn 10 Favour for every Crate of Ancient Bone Dust you sell.

You have a chance of finding Ancient Bone Dust from the loot awarded from a defeated Skeleton Ship, Kraken, and Megalodon.

You are guaranteed to find an Ancient Bone Dust inside a Skeleton Fort Vault and a Fort of the Damned Vault.

Sell the Ancient Bone Dust to the Merchant Alliance, not The Reaper’s Bones, to increase your Favour.

Anyone in your crew can sell the Ancient Bone Dust to the Merchant Alliance to receive Favour for this Challenge.

Week 3: Armies of the Damned

The third set of Challenges are focused on destroying land forces such as Phantoms, Skeleton Lords, and Ashen Lords!

Earn a fair amount of Favour by...

Defeating Phantoms. Do so in an Alliance for extra Favour!

You will earn 1 Favour for every Phantom you defeat.

You can find Phantoms emergently on islands as you explore them or during the Captains of the Damned Tall Tale. Destroying either the emergent or Tall Tale Phantoms will reward you with Favour.

Phantoms are susceptible to Cutlass, Firearm, Cannon, and Gunpowder Barrel damage just as skeletons are.

This Challenge is crew-based, so it doesn’t matter who in your crew defeats the Phantom.

Phantoms

Earn a fair amount of Favour by...

Defeating Skeleton Captains. Do so in an Alliance for extra Favour!

You will earn 5 Favour for every Skeleton Captain you defeat.

Any Skeleton Captain you find and defeat in the Sea of Thieves will earn you Favour.

One of the best ways to find Skeleton Captains is by completing Order of Souls Bounty Voyages. You are guaranteed to encounter the Skeleton Captain listed on each of the Bounty Quests. Each Bounty Quest can have up to four different Skeleton Captains to defeat for Favour.

You can also find Skeleton Captains at Skeleton Forts and randomly on islands you explore. Hunting down those Skeleton Captains at a Skeleton Fort wouldn’t be such a bad idea since you will earn Favour if you can take out the Skeleton Lord on the final wave!

Make sure that you or someone in your crew gets the final blow on the Skeleton Captain. You do not want a geyser, lava rock, or Gunpowder Barrel lit from a nearby skeleton to kill the Skeleton Captain. If that happens, you will not get credit for the kill and receive the Favour.

Earn a good amount of Favour by...

Defeating Skeleton Lords. Do so in an Alliance for extra Favour!

You will earn 20 Favour for every Skeleton Lord you defeat.

Time to sail to that Skull cloud in the sky! You are guaranteed to encounter one of three different Skeleton Lords on the final wave of a Skeleton Fort World Event. Taking down any one of the three will award you and your crew with Favour.

Skeleton Lords on Ashen Skeleton Forts

Earn a huge amount of Favour by...

Defeating Ashen Lords. Do so in an Alliance for extra Favour!

You will earn 50 Favour each time you defeat an Ashen Lord.

You can find Ashen Lords under the Ashen Winds Tornado or at any Fort of Fortune. These are some of the toughest Skeleton Lords that roam the Sea of Thieves.

Battling one is comprised of three stages. At each stage, the Ashen Lord will have access to a new ability. They have lots of health and can throw fire rocks at your ship from a distance. You’ll have to be on your toes during the entire fight!

If you need any help mastering the fight against one, be sure to check out our Ashen Lord guide here.

Ashen Lords

Earn a fair amount of Favour by...

Handing in Handing in Stronghold Skulls to the Order of Souls. Do so in an Alliance for extra Favour!

You will earn 10 Favour for every Stronghold Skull you sell.

You have a chance of finding a Stronghold Skull from the loot awarded from a defeated Skeleton Ship, Kraken, and Megalodon.

You are guaranteed to find a Stronghold Skull inside a Skeleton Fort Vault and a Fort of the Damned Vault.

Sell the Stronghold Skull to the Order of Souls, not The Reaper’s Bones, to increase your Favour.

Anyone in your crew can sell the Stronghold Skull to the Order of Souls to receive Favour for this Challenge.

Which Challenges should you do?

For starters, you’ll want to pay attention to which set of Challenges has the 2x Favour multiplier for the week. Focusing on those Challenges will have you earning lots of Favour quickly.

After that, you’ll need to determine your risk level. For example, going after Skeleton Captains, a Skeleton Lord, and an Ashen Lord at a Fort of Fortune will earn you lots of Favour but will open you up to many dangers.

On the other hand, you are less likely to run into other crews as you keep to yourself and kill Skeleton Captains during an Order of Souls Bounty Voyage.

On top of risk level, look for ways to group up the Challenges in single activities.

By partaking in the Fort of the Damned, you’ll have the opportunity to kill Shadows of Fate, kill the Ghost of Graymarrow, and acquire several Crates of Ancient Bone Dust.

You can also take on the Burning Blade World Event to kill dozens of Ghost Ships and the Burning Blade.

Suppose you attempt to conquer a Skeleton Fort. In that case, you will kill dozens of skeletons for the community-wide Challenge and earn Favour for killing several Skeleton Captains, killing a Skeleton Lord, and looting a Crate of Ancient Bone Dust.

If all of those sound too risky, you can always raise an Order of Souls Emissary Flag and work on increasing your Emissary Grade by completing Bounty Voyages. At Grade 5, you can collect an Emissary Quest from the Order of Souls that will have you killing 16 Skeleton Captains.

No matter what activities you partake in, be sure to sail the sea with Flames of Fate on your ship. The more Flames you collect, the better!

So, look at the Challenges that are awarding double Favour and decide which Challenges you are comfortable completing. And don’t forget to try and join an Alliance for that double Favour bonus!

Ferry of the Damned

Community Spirit Challenges

There will be two global challenges throughout the event that will require the entire community’s efforts to complete.

The first Challenge is to defeat 50,000,000 skeletons.

The second Challenge is to defeat 150,000,000 skeletons.

While it is up to the community to combine their skeleton slaying skills to complete the Challenges, your crew must kill at least ten skeletons to participate in the Challenge and be eligible for the rewards.

Once your crew has killed ten skeletons, you will earn the rewards at the end of the event if the community completes the Challenges.
