The next time you crack open the Vault of a Skeleton Fort or comb a beach looking for loot, you might stumble upon a devilish Reaper’s Bones invention, the Cannon of Rage! The Cannon of Rage, a portable cannon, is a game-changer for pirates seeking to dominate land and sea.

You can use it to blast through waves of foes on a fort, launch yourself into hard-to-reach locations, or outfit your ship with an extra front or rear-facing cannon.

But beware! Excessive use or incoming damage will cause it to overheat, so keep a bucket of water nearby unless you’re ready to see your additional firepower go up in smoke!

What is the Cannon of Rage?

The Cannon of Rage is a portable cannon you can transport and deploy on islands, Outposts, and ships. There is no limit to the number of times you can deploy, retract, and move the cannon.

The Cannon of Rage behaves like a piece of treasure, so you can pick it up, drop it, and sell it. It also means that you cannot dive to Voyages or Hourglass Faction Battles with it.

While deployed, you can load the Cannon of Rage like any other cannon with Cannonballs, pets, and pirates. It also deals the same amount of damage as any other cannon. However, unlike stationary cannons, a deployed Cannon of Rage can overheat and explode!

Overheating

Crafted from the remnants of a Chest of Rage, a Cannon of Rage can overheat and explode from excessive use or taking too much damage while deployed. You’ll need to manage the heat to avoid an explosion!

The Cannon of Rage can only heat up while deployed. There is no danger of it exploding while retracted, and it will cool down over time while not in use. It behaves just like a normal piece of treasure while retracted with zero risk.

Heat from usage

Each shot fired with the Cannon of Rage generates heat. As the cannon heats up, it will glow and steam until it overheats and explodes, causing devastating damage to any pirates, enemies, or ships nearby. You must manage your rate of fire to prevent the cannon from overheating.

All ammo fired from the Cannon of Rage generates heat equally, so don’t worry about what type of Cannonball you are loading and firing.

You can quickly shoot six Cannonballs in a row with the Cannon of Rage before it ignites to explode. Shooting a few more Cannonballs before it blows up is possible, but you should probably stop and retreat so as not to take damage. You’ll hear a distinct sound when the cannon overheats, similar to when a Chest of Rage is ready to blow.

The explosion radius is larger than a Gunpowder Barrel but less than a Stronghold Gunpowder Barrel.

Heat from damage

The Cannon of Rage can also overheat from taking damage while deployed. It can generate heat from all types of damage, including a Cutlass, distant Eye of Reach, Cannonball, Gunpowder Barrel, fire, or nearby exploding Cannon of Rage. You’ll want to think twice before having two Cannons of Rage deployed on your ship simultaneously, as you could create a chain reaction of explosions!

The Cannon of Rage can receive 200 damage while deployed before exploding, so eight quick slashes with a Cutlass can detonate the cannon!

The damage caused by the Cannon of Rage’s explosion differs for each ship type to balance the blast for each crew size. You can expect different levels of damage between a Sloop, Brigantine, and Galleon.

How to cool down the Cannon of Rage

If a Cannon of Rage hasn’t gained heat for a short period from use or damage, it will gradually cool down. However, you can accelerate cooling it with water from bucketing, similar to the Chest of Rage. So, you can shoot more Cannonballs in a shorter time with a crew mate dumping water on the cannon than if you were just shooting it all by yourself.

Rain from a storm and submersion in water will also cool the cannon.

Where can you find the Cannon of Rage?

You are guaranteed to find a Cannon of Rage within the Vaults of emergent Skeleton Forts, the Forts of Fortune, and Forts of the Damned.

You also have a chance to randomly find one in the Treasuries of Sea Forts or washed up on island beaches.

The Cannon of Rage is available in both the High and Safer Seas.

How to deploy the Cannon of Rage

Once you have a Cannon of Rage, you can deploy it by dropping it on a flat surface. The Cannon of Rage deploys in the direction you are facing when you drop it, making it easy to control where the cannon will fire. The firing angle of the Cannon of Rage is also the same as stationary cannons on your ship and islands.

After placing the Cannon of Rage where you want, you can deploy the cannon by looking at it and holding the interact button.

While deployed, you can interact with it again to retract it and move it to another location. Both deploying and retracting take time. However, retracting takes longer than deploying.

You can walk through a deployed Cannon of Rage, preventing it from blocking you or other pirates from getting stuck behind it.

Where can you deploy the Cannon of Rage?

You can deploy the Cannon of Rage on islands, Outposts, and most places on a ship, including the front and back, allowing you to shoot vessels in front and behind.

While you can deploy it almost anywhere with a flat surface and space to stand behind it, there are some key places you cannot.

Don’t expect to deploy the Cannon of Rage near Capstans, Wheels, and Sail controls. You also can’t deploy it in the lower deck of a ship, crow’s nests, deep water, certain Tall Tale areas, the Sunken Kingdom, and rowboats.

If you cannot deploy the Cannon of Rage because of its location or angle, you will see a prompt informing you that you “Can’t Deploy.”
