The seas have become even more treacherous with the emergence of the fearsome Ancient Megalodons. These terrifying beasts are much larger and deadlier than the current Megalodons inhabiting the Sea of Thieves.

The next time you set sail, you’ll want to keep a keen eye on the horizon for these menacing beasts. While the havoc they can unleash is unmatched, defeating one is a worthwhile endeavor for the rewards they hold.

What is the Ancient Megalodons Event?

Ancient Megalodons are powerful Megalodons with unique abilities and characteristics, such as lighting fires, releasing fiery explosions, and summoning reinforcements.

Unlike other World Events that are not always active as they are in rotation with other World Events, Ancient Megalodons are always present in the Sea of Thieves.

While regular Megalodons randomly emerge around your ship, Ancient Megalodons are already roaming in various locations across the sea, excluding the Shores of Gold and the Red Sea.

While there are two different kinds of Ancient Megalodons, only one will be active at a time.

Ancient Megalodons can be active while other World Events such as a Skeleton Fort, Skeleton Fleet, and Burning Blade are active.

When you approach an Ancient Megalodon, you will receive a banner informing you of the encounter, similar to approaching the Burning Blade. You will also receive a banner upon defeating an Ancient Megalodon.

How do you find an Ancient Megalodon?

Dissimilar to other World Events, you can’t find Ancient Megalodons by looking for a specific cloud or beacon on the horizon. Instead, you’ll want to reach Hunter’s Call Emissary Grade V to track one down.

Upon reaching Emissary Grave V with the Hunter’s Call, the Ancient Megalodon currently roaming the sea with you will be marked on your Map Table with a unique icon.

The icon on the Map Table for the Ancient Feared Redmaw is a red shark fin and red flame, and the icon for the Ancient Barnacled Dread is a purple shark fin and a blue lightning bolt.

The Ancient Feared Redmaw

The Ancient Feared Redmaw is an Ashen Megalodon that can light ships ablaze with a fiery bite and unleash a giant explosion that also lights vessels on fire. It is also bigger, faster, and more aggressive than regular Megalodons.

To defeat the giant shark, you can repeatedly damage it with Cannonballs, Firearms, and other tools of destruction. However, do not use fire-based weaponry, as damaging the Ancient Feared Redmaw will speed up how often it sends a deadly blast of fire!

The Ancient Barnacled Dread

The Ancient Barnacled Dread is a Coral Megalodon that can electrocute pirates with a shocking bite and summon Eel-ectric Ocean Crawlers on nearby vessels. It is also bigger and slower than regular Megalodons.

To defeat the fearsome beast, you must destroy its protective layer of coral to reveal weak spots. Hitting the revealed weak spots will inflict significant damage.
