Journals you say? Yes! There are 10 brand new journals spread across the sea for you to find and read. These journals belong to Umbra, a brand new resident to the Sea of Thieves who is cataloguing all of the legendary activities performed by the pirates who inhibit it.

Legendary pirates are not all she is interested in though. Umbra has recounted some of the epic events that have taken place in the Sea of Thieves from The Hungering Deep to the Fort of the Damned.

Each of these grand stories have been archived and scattered in books across the Sea of Thieves. This guide will show you the location of each hidden book!

Legends of the Sea I

Find Umbra’s book on Devil’s Ridge, overlooking the sea.

From the South beach, head North and walk up the grass path that is to the right of the Battle of the Boar rock painting.

You will see a large rock overhang above the path in front of you. Climb up this overhang and find the book on the tip of it overlooking the South East beach.

Legends of the Sea II

Find Umbra’s book on Crescent Isle, where Salty once rested.

Sail into the cove of Crescent Isle. Just South of the big cave opening in the middle of the island you will find some barrels and a small cave mouth facing the cove. Inside these barrels is where you will find Umbra’s second book.

Legends of the Sea III

Find Umbra’s book on The Devil’s Thirst, at a small camp.

On the south side of The Devil’s Thirst you will find a ship hull overturned and being used as a makeshift shelter. Inside this shelter you will find resource barrels, an ammo crate and Umbra’s third book.

Legends of the Sea IV

Find Umbra’s book on The Crooked Masts, under a beacon’s light.

This book is going to take a lot precision and a little luck to get. You will need to sail and anchor your boat on the North side of The Crooked Masts.

Up high on the North peak you should see a platform. For those who partook in the Festival of the Damned activities, this platform will be very familiar.

Jump in your ship’s cannon and aim to land on this platform. On the corner of the platform you will find another one of Umbra’s books.

Legends of the Sea V

Find Umbra’s book on Kraken’s Fall, near some Kraken remains.

On the South East side of the island where Penelope resides are some old kraken skeleton remains. On top of one of the shorter remains is the book you are looking for.

Legends of the Sea VI

Find Umbra’s book in the Pirate Legend Hideout, safely shelved away.

You will need to use your Pirate Legend shanty or find a kind pirate to lend you theirs and make your way down to the Pirate Legend Hideout.

Once inside, walk over to the ghostly pirate band. Behind them next to the furnace you will find the book above a resource barrel.

Legends of the Sea VII

Find Umbra’s book on Hidden Spring Keep, overlooking the fort.

On the South West side of the island you will find a tall wooden tower. Climb up the ladder attached to it to find the book laying on the ground there.

Legends of the Sea VIII

Find Umbra’s book on Shipwreck Bay, tucked away inside a wreck.

You will want to head to the giant wrecked shipwreck on the South side of the island. Go to the Captain’s Cabin and look at the Captain’s table. Turn around and you will find the book wedged between a wooden box and old chair.

Legends of the Sea IX

Find Umbra’s book at the Wild Treasures Store, a Seapost out in the Wilds.

It won’t be too hard to find this book as these Seaposts are very tiny! To the right of the merchant who runs the Seapost you will find the book underneath a hammock.

Legends of the Sea X

Find Umbra’s book in the Fort of the Damned, discussing the supernatural.

The 10th and final book can be found on the haunted fort. Head to the top of the fort and climb up the the watchtower just West of the vault. The book will be leaning against a pillar just next to the ladder.

There you have it! All 10 journals read and collected. Be sure to head back to Umbra to equip your newly unlocked tattoos. You will also unlock the A Living History commendation.
