There are shiny new chests to find throughout the Sea of Thieves. One of the most elusive and valuable is the King’s Chest. However, you won’t find one of these kingly chests during a Voyage or inside the vault of a Skeleton Fort. Instead, you must venture off the beaten path to find them!
King's Chest
The King’s Chest is a rare Kingly treasure you can discover randomly in the Sea of Thieves. Specifically, you can find King’s Chests from emergent shipwrecks and X Marks the Spot Quests from Messages in a Bottle.
However, you are not guaranteed to find a King’s Chest from either of them, but they are the only places you can. So, if you are lucky, you can search the hull of an emergent shipwreck to find a King’s Chest. Or, you can pick up a Message in a Bottle and hope you get an X Marks the Spot Quest that leads you to a King’s Chest.
Shipwrecks and Messages in a Bottle are random occurrences.
To find a shipwreck, look for a large flock of seagulls circling above open water. Beneath the seagulls will be a shipwreck.
To find a Message in a Bottle, scan the beaches of every island you pass and look for a green colored bottle sticking out of the sand. You can also find them inside emergent shipwrecks. The Message in a Bottle can contain several types of Quests. If you are looking for a King’s Chest, you want an X Marks the Spot Quest that leads you to an island with multiple dig locations.
How much is a King's Chest worth?
King’s Chests are worth about 3,100 Gold and Ashen King’s Chests are worth about 3,800 Gold. You can sell King’s Chests to the Gold Hoarders, Reaper’s Bones, or the Sovereigns.
Selling enough kingly treasure will unlock the Cartographer Cutlass and Eye of Reach.
