One of the many puzzles you must solve during The Journey to Mêlée Island Tall Tale is how to free Otis. If you speak to Otis, he gives you two helpful pieces of information.
The first bit of information is that the Sheriff and the jail cell keys he carried have long been missing, so you’ll likely not need to look for keys. And the second bit of information is that you can blow the locks up.
So you know you can free Otis by blasting the locks, but how?
How to free Otis
To free Otis, you must blow the locks on his jail cell with Walt’s Gunpowder Gummies and Gunpowder Fuses. While you can easily purchase the fuses from the General Store, you’ll need to cook and feed Root Beer Stewed Meat to the piranha poodles in the Alley.
Make Root Beer Stewed Meat
To make the Root Beer Stewed Meat, go to the Kitchen while wearing the Chef’s Uniform and start cooking the recipe.
You’ll first start by dicing the Onion on the table. Once you have chopped it, put it in the boiling pot. Next, slice the Leek on the table and add it with the Onion. Then, grab the Hunk o’ Meat on the other table and add it to the boiling pot.
Next to the locked door is the Caniche Mordant Flower on a shelf. Grab it and add it to the boiling pot. Then, add the Root Beer Sprinkles from a shelf in the Kitchen to the boiling pot.
Finally, use the Kitchen Door Key on the locked door. Walk out on the small jetty behind the Kitchen, equip your Fishing Rod, and cast it to catch a Red Herring.
After you’ve caught your fish, add it to the boiling pot, and you will complete the dish!
Take the Root Beer Stewed Meat from the pot and carry it to the Alley.
Feed Piranha Poodles
Once in the Alley, place the Root Beer Stewed Meat in the dog bowl in front of the piranha poodles. They will eat the meat and shortly after soon dispatch Walt. With Walt gone, you can grab the Pair of Gunpowder Gummies he left behind on the crate.
Blow up the jail cell lock
With the Gunpowder Gummies in hand, head to the Jail. Place a Gunpowder Gummy in the lock of the jail cell belonging to Otis. You are halfway there!
Next, go to the General Store and purchase the Gunpowder Fuses for 70 Pieces o’ Eight. Then, return to the Jail and place a Gunpowder Fuse in each lock.
Next, equip and raise your Lantern at the end of the fuse to light it. The jail cell doors will blow. With the doors removed, Otis will run out and claim his freedom!
