One of the many commendations you can complete during The Sunken Pearl Tall Tale is the Tale of Eternal Sorrow commendation.
You can start working on the commendation once you arrive in the Citadel of the Sunken Kingdom during this Tall Tale. You will first have to travel through the Spire to get here.
If you need help completing the entire The Sunken Pearl Tall Tale, check out our full walkthrough here.
If you are just looking to complete Tale of Eternal Sorrow, your first step is to find the Silver Blade Key!
Where is the Silver Blade Key?
The Silver Blade Key can be found in a small cave at the top of a large cavern in the Citadel.
The large cavern is near the latter half of your adventure through the Citadel. You’ll know you are in the right room if you see a C shaped piece of shipwreck that needs to be raised with a pulley hanging from the ceiling.

It also has a Siren Statue Puzzle that will raise the water level when solved.

Once you complete the puzzle and raise the water level, you will be able to climb a ladder to a previously unreachable wooden platform.
On this platform, you’ll use a pulley to raise another wooden platform. This platform will give you access to two paths. The one to the right will lead you out of the cavern to the next part of the Tall Tale. For the Silver Blade Key, you will want to head left first to the small cave lit with red light.

Inside is where you will find the Silver Blade Key.

With the Silver Blade Key in hand, turn around and head back out to the cavern. Jump in the water so you can climb up the ladder to the wooden platform again. Raise the platform and now head to the right.
Where to use the Silver Blade Key
After leaving the cavern with the Silver Blade Key, you’ll come to a new large cavern with an entire shipwreck in it. Walk up the path to the left and board the shipwreck. You will use the Silver Blade Key on the Captain Cabin’s door to find the Chest of Everlasting Sorrow.

Pick up the chest and set it down next to the ladder of the main mast. You will come back to the chest in a bit.
For now, you will want to eliminate all Ocean Crawlers, raise the ship with the capstan, and fight the kraken to continue.
Make sure you open the door, pick up the chest, and move it to the mast before the fight starts.

Open the Sorrowful Chamber
After the kraken fight, pick up the Chest of Everlasting Sorrow and climb up the main mast’s ladder and leave the shipwreck behind.
With the chest, swim through a tunnel that is blocked by an airlock. Damage the pink glowing coral to continue forward. On the other side of the airlock is the room you want to place your Chest of Everlasting Sorrow. It will have two boulder sized stepping stones to a closed wooden door in it.

Jump across the stepping stones and place the Chest of Everlasting Sorrow in front of the door. The stone face above the door will start crying and the door will open.

Learn the Truth of a Sorrowful Encounter
Enter the secret chamber and inspect five different etchings found on the walls. After inspecting all five you will have unlocked the commendation.

After 8 attempts…the chest is either dropped outside the air-to-water barrier or simply vanishes when I pass through the barrier :(. The only time it worked was when a previous crew left their chest on the deck…I took it through but it did not trigger the door to cry or open. Quite vexing. Issue reported to Rare.
Sorry to hear you’ve ran into issues with the chest 🙁 It is a known issue and another hotfix is on the way. Have you tried taking the chest out of the Captain’s Cabin and setting it on the deck near the main mast before the battle starts?
Is there any way that you know that if you fall off the boat you can get back up to the mast with chest because multiple times me and my friends have fallen off the boat and we can’t complete the quest.
Hmm, no unfortunately. It seems like once you fall off the boat you are pretty stuck. We don’t know of a way to continue on after that 🙁 Sorry!
