One of the many puzzles you must solve during The Quest for Guybrush Tall Tale is clearing the fog from Mêlée Island. You can start working on lifting the haze as soon you arrive at Mêlée Island during this Tall Tale.
Once you clear the fog, you can access the rest of Mêlée Island and continue the Tall Tale. You will also unlock the ‘Clearing the Air’ commendation!
You must speak with Corina in the International House of Mojo to get started on getting rid of the fog!
How to clear the fog
To clear the fog, you first must get permission to partake in the Three Trials. Once you get approval, you must collect three items for Corina. Once you’ve collected the three items, give them to her, and she will, in return, give you a fog-clearing potion, the Potion of New Horizons.
To get permission, speak with Corina in the International House of Mojo.
Speak with Corina
As soon as you step foot on Mêlée Island, head to Low Street and speak Corina in The International House of Mojo. She will tell you to talk with the Pirate Leaders in the Scumm Bar. She hopes your relationship with Governor Threepwood will allow you to partake in the Three Trials.
Speak with the Pirate Leaders
Go to Scumm bar and talk to the Pirate Leaders. Once you tell them you’ve met with the Governor, they will let you attempt the Three Trials! You must complete and provide proof of completion for each. The Trials include the Trial of the Sword, Trial of Thievery, and Trial of Treasure-Huntery.
However, before starting the Trials, you must clear the fog. The Cursed Captain will mention that Carla can help with that.
Speak with the Corina
Let Corina know you have permission to start the Trials. She will then give you a list of items you must collect before making the potion to clear the fog. The three items are the Mighty Pirate Sword, the Rubber Chicken, and the Treasure Map.
Purchase the Treasure Map
The first item you need is the Treasure Map from Citizen of Mêlée. However, you don’t have any Pieces o’ Eight to purchase it. Talk with Citizen and ask if he is willing to trade. He asks if you can get him a sea chart signed by Governor Guybrush in return for the map.
Go to the Governor’s Mansion and search the bookshelves on the first floor. Look for the book titled ‘The Time I Blew Up LeChuck.’ Examine and tug on it to reveal Guybrush’s Signed Sea Chart when you find it.
Pick it up and give it to Citizen of Mêlée. He will then let you purchase the Treasure Map.
Purchase the Mighty Pirate Sword and Rubber Chicken
The second and third items you need are the Mighty Pirate Sword and Rubber Chicken. Both are for sale in the General Store. However, you still need money to purchase them.
Talk to the Storekeeper and choose the last dialogue option to ask about credit. He will then add a Blank Credit Note to your Quest Radial that you need to be signed by the Governor.
Head back to the Governor’s Mansion and up the stairs to Guybrush. Approach him and pickpocket him to discover a Storage Crate Key. Use the key on the small footlocker next to the door. Inside, you’ll find a Captain’s Inkwell.
Put the inkwell on Guybrush’s desk and return downstairs to pick up the Writing Quill from the table near the large picture of Guybrush. Place the Writing Quill on the desk, and you can forge Guybrush’s signature.
Equip the Blank Credit Note from your Quest Radial and place it on the table. Then, interact with the note to forge a Signed Credit Note. Pick up the Signed Credit Note and give it to the Storekeeper.
The Storekeeper will accept your note and allow you to purchase the Mighty Pirate Sword and Rubber Chicken with Store Credit.
Speak with Corina
Return to Corina with the three items, and she will brew the potion for you. Pick it up and head to the top of Lookout Point.
Clear the fog
Once at Lookout Point, approach the fire with the potion and interact with it. You will pour the potion into the fire, which will cause a green haze to flow out of the fire, only to rush back in, taking the fog with it.
