The first-ever Tricksters and Treaters Event is currently taking place! To participate in the celebration, you’ll need to take your trick-or-treating to Twitter and the sea! The trickster Jack O’ Looter will treat you with gold, cosmetics, and titles if you meet his lofty goals!

What is the Tricksters and Treaters Event?

The Tricksters and Treaters Event is comprised of a personal Twitter Goal to complete and two in-game Community Goals for you to contribute to.

The Twitter Goal will require you to go to the official Tricksters and Treaters Event page, link your Twitter account if you haven’t already, and click the blue Twitter icon to Tweet a special message to the @SeaOfThieves Twitter handle.

After you’ve sent your message, refresh the Event page around ten minutes later, and you will see if Jack O’ Looter left you. It will either be a nice sum of gold or a sad pile of gold.

Twitter Trick or Treat

The Community Goals will require you to complete repeatable in-game actions that add points to one of the two battling sides: the Treaters and the Tricksters. There can only be one winner in this friendly fight to see who can complete their Community Goal first!

To contribute to the Treaters’ Community Goal and help unlock the Treater’s Reward Hat, you’ll need to work with other pirates to bury treasure, place treasure maps on the Quest Board, and discover treasure buried by other pirates.

To contribute to the Tricksters’ Community Goal and help unlock the Trickster’s Reward Hat, you’ll need to work with other pirates to bury Gunpowder Barrels, steal Map Bundles from other crews, and hit ships with purple Cursed Cannonballs.

However, the Community Goal rewards are not guaranteed. You’ll need to do your part and meet your personal contributions to the Community Goals to earn the rewards. You can play for both sides and get both hats. But only players who initially choose the winning side will unlock the event-exclusive Title.

If your first action contributes to the winning side, you’ll receive the event-exclusive Title. If your first action contributes to the losing side, you won’t get the Title.

If the community achieves the Tricksters’ Community Goal and you meet your personal contribution to the Tricksters, you will earn the Trickster’s Reward Hat.

While it is possible to unlock both hats, it might be possible to unlock the Title depending on your first action. If your first action is for the winning side you can earn the Triumphant Tricky Treater Title.

How long is the Tricksters and Treaters Event?

The Tricksters and Treaters event runs from October 28th to November 1st. That gives you about four days to earn all the possible rewards!

Community Goals

It’s a race for each side to complete their Community Goal first! You can work on both sides and can earn both cosmetics, but to earn the event-exclusive Title, you’ll need to choose a side. If you contribute to the winning side first, you’ll get the Title. However, if you contribute to the losing side first, you won’t get the Title. Choose carefully!

Treaters

To complete this Community Goal, the Treaters need to bury treasure, donate Treasure Stash Maps to the Quest Board, and dig up other crews’ buried treasures.

Bury Treasure

Treater Actions

To contribute to the Treaters you can bury treasure, donate Buried Treasure Stash maps to the Quest Board, and dig up other crews’ buried treasures. You can keep doing these actions as many times as you like during the event to make progress on your personal contribution and help the Community Goal.

How to bury treasure

You’ll earn 100 points for each piece of treasure you bury.

To bury treasure, simply walk up to any piece of treasure with your shovel equipped and use the Secondary Use button several times until it is buried.

You can only bury treasure on soft surfaces like sand, dirt, and grass.

Burying a piece of treasure will automatically add a Buried Treasure Stash map to your Quest Radial that you can later donate to a Quest Board.

Once easy way to complete this action is to purchase cheap commodities from the Merchant Alliance and bury them at the Outpost.

Bury Captain's Chest

How to donate Buried Treasure Stash maps to the Quest Board

You’ll earn 50 points for each Buried Treasure Stash map you donate to the Quest Board.

You’ll need to get a Buried Treasure Stash map before you donate one. To get one, you must fully bury at least one piece of treasure. You will receive a Buried Treasure Stash map in your Quest Radial as soon as you do.

Once you have a map, you can visit a Quest Board at any Outpost or Seapost and donate your map. However, it’s important to remember that you cannot donate Buried Treasure Stash maps for Outposts.

After you have posted your map, it will be shared with every pirate sailing in your session.

Post Map

How to dig up other crews' buried treasure

You’ll earn 25 points for each piece of treasure you dig up from another crew’s Quest Board map.

You can earn points for this challenge by taking a Quest from a Quest Board found on any Outpost and Seapost. Only maps created by other players on the board will count for this action. Unfortunately, you will not get credit for any of the maps generated by the game.

Once you have your map, sail to it and dig up the treasure found at the Xs on the map. Each piece of treasure you dig up will contribute to the Treaters’ Community Goal!

Tricker Actions

To contribute to the Treaters you can bury Gunpowder Barrels, steal Map Bundles, and shoot ships with purple Cursed Cannonballs. You can keep doing these actions as many times as you like during the event to make progress on your personal contribution and help the Community Goal.

How to bury Gunpowder Barrels

You’ll earn 100 points for each Gunpowder Barrel you bury.

You can bury a Gunpowder Barrel just as you can treasure. Walk up to the barrel with your shovel equipped and use the Secondary Use button.

You can only bury Gunpowder Barrels on soft surfaces like sand, dirt, and grass.

Unlike treasure, burying Gunpowder Barrels will not create a Buried Treasure Stash. Instead, to lure pirates to your trap, you’ll have to bury other treasure nearby in hopes of an unsuspecting pirate accidentally digging up your Gunpowder Barrel.

You can easily find at least five Gunpowder Barrels at any fort across the Sea of Thieves. The fort can be active or inactive though inactive would be preferable. Once you find a Gunpowder Barrel, bury it and earn your points!

How to steal Map Bundles

You’ll earn 50 points for each Maps Bundle you steal from another crew’s Captain’s Table.

You can take a Map Bundle physically from another crew’s Captain’s Table, or you can sink their ship and take it after it floats to the surface. Once you have the Map Bundle, take it to your Captain’s Table and place it or combine it to steal it.

How to hit ships with purple Cursed Cannonballs

You’ll earn 33 points for each ship you hit with a purple Cursed Cannonball.

You can find purple Cursed Cannonballs randomly in Resource Barrels throughout the Sea of Thieves. Outposts are a great place to search for some before you hit the sea.

Once you find some, equip them and shoot them with your ship’s cannon at any Skeleton Ship or pirate-controlled ship.
