Flameheart appears to be after an ancient mask of great power, the Veil of the Ancients! If this powerful relic fell into Flameheart’s possession, he could use its magic to travel freely between the Sea of the Damned and the Sea of Thieves. Therefore, it’s paramount that we find the Veil of the Ancients before he does!
Lucky for us, Belle knows where the Veil of the Ancients is hidden! However, don’t get too excited! The Ancients have kept the Veil of the Ancients safe by hiding it within the belly of the elusive beast, the Shrouded Ghost.
To thwart Flameheart’s plans, Belle has joined forces with Merrick, the legendary Megalodon summoner, to hunt down the Shrouded Ghost. With Merrick’s help, Belle hopes to reveal the Shrouded Ghost, slay it, and grab the Veil of the Ancients before Flameheart does.
Unfortunately, Belle and Merrick have run aground and are stuck in the middle of the sea. So it’s up to you to summon the Shrouded Ghost and collect the Veil of the Ancients! Successful pirates who tackle this legendary shark hunt and complete this Adventure will unlock two mementos: a time-limited exclusive cosmetic and title!
To start The Shrouded Deep Adventure, speak with Larinna. She knows where Belle was last seen and will point you in the right direction!
How to complete The Shrouded Deep Adventure
To complete The Shrouded Deep Adventure, you must work with at least four other pirates to summon and defeat the Shrouded Ghost. Then, once you have repelled Flameheart’s forces and conquered the Shrouded Ghost, you must speak with Belle to complete the Adventure.
Completing the Adventure will reward you with the Hunter’s Beloved Figurehead cosmetic.
To earn the Summoner of Myths title, you’ll need to complete all six Deeds for the Adventure. You can see what the Deeds are and your progress towards them in the Adventure Tab.
There are no Checkpoints for this Adventure. However, crews can work together for most of the Adventure, which will significantly speed up the summoning process!
The Shrouded Deep Adventure will be available to all pirates from April 21st to May 12th, 2022. Unfortunately, after May 12th, you will not be able to partake in the Adventure and earn the two Mementos.
The Shrouded Deep: Step by Step
Step 1: Start the Shrouded Deep Adventure
To start The Shrouded Deep Adventure, you’ll need to speak to Larinna at any active Outpost across the Sea of Thieves. You can find her just outside the Tavern.
Once you have found Larinna, speak with her. You’ll see several different dialogue options you can select. Choose the last option, BEGIN ADVENTURE, to let her know you are ready to seek out Belle and Merrick and start the Adventure!
It’s important to note that you cannot start the Adventure if you are actively doing a Tall Tale. You can also cancel the Adventure if you need to via your ship’s Voyage Table like you would a voyage or Tall Tale.
As soon as you let Larinna know you are ready, you will begin Chapter One of the Adventure!
Step 2: Sail to The Killer Whale
After speaking with Larinna and starting Chapter One of the Adventure, you will receive a note from Larinna. This note will tell you that Merrick’s ship, The Killer Whale, was last seen at the coordinates M12.
Before heading out, you will want to stock up on lots of Cannonballs and Wooden Planks. Both of these will be crucial for what lies ahead.
Set sail to The Killer Whale and meet with Belle and Merrick as soon as you are ready.
The Killer Whale is near the middle of the three original regions, just below Shipwreck bay. You can locate The Killer Whale on your Map Table at the coordinates M12.
Once you have arrived at The Killer Whale, dock your ship and board the wrecked galleon. You will find Belle and Merrick on the top deck where the capstan should be.
Step 3: Speak with Belle
Speak with Belle once you find her to complete Chapter One. Don’t leave just yet, though! You need to talk with Belle again to start the next part of the Adventure.
After you have completed Chapter One, speak with Belle to let her know you are ready to continue the Adventure and help summon the Shrouded Ghost! Choosing CONTINUE ADVENTURE will prompt you with four new options to choose:
- I want to seek the soul of the Hungering One
- I want to seek the soul of the ShadowMaw
- I want to seek the soul of the Ancient Terror
- I want to seek the soul of the Crested Queen
Choosing any one of these options will send you on a Megalodon hunt. Your crew and any other crews participating in the ritual need to collect all four souls to complete the ritual necessary to summon the Shrouded Ghost.
For those curious, the Megalodons you summon as part of this Adventure will not count towards the current “Hunter of the…” Megalodon commendations. Those commendations are exclusively for Megalodons found randomly in the Sea of Thieves.
Step 4: Capture Four Megalodon Souls
To perform Belle’s ritual and summon the Shrouded Ghost, you’ll need to capture the souls of the Hungering One, the ShadowMaw, the Ancient Terror, and the Crested Queen.
You can collect the souls in any order, so it doesn’t matter which option you choose first. However, to save time, you’ll want to check the Ritual Table and make sure another crew hasn’t already collected the Megalodon soul you are going after. Since the ritual is a server-wide goal, other pirates may have already collected some of the souls.
The souls on the Ritual Table are similar to how the flames on the Fort of the Damned work.
If you see an Enchanted Effigy with blue feathers on one of the four plates at the Ritual Table, someone has already retrieved the Hungering One.
If you see an Enchanted Effigy with red feathers on one of the four plates at the Ritual Table, someone has already retrieved the ShadowMaw.
If you see an Enchanted Effigy with yellow feathers on one of the four plates at the Ritual Table, someone has already retrieved the Ancient Terror.
If you see an Enchanted Effigy with purple feathers on one of the four plates at the Ritual Table, someone has already retrieved the Crested Queen.
Choose a soul that other pirates have not yet collected and continue on your Adventure!
How to collect the soul of a Megalodon
Once you choose one of the Megalodon’s souls to collect, Belle will give you four Quest items: Belle’s Instructions, an Effigy, a Summoning Flare, and a Circle Map.
Belle’s Instructions will tell you what island you need to sail to and how to summon the Megalodon once you are there. You will find each Megalodon around a different island. However, the island is always the same for that specific Megalodon.
Once you are on the island listed in the instructions, head to the location circled in your Circle Map from your Quest Radial. There will be a specific cannon in this area you need to use.
Once you find the cannon, equip the Summoning Flare from your Quest Radial and load it into the cannon. The cannon will automatically shoot the flare into the sky and create a light above the area where the Megalodon will spawn.
Head back to your ship and sail to the highlighted area. You will find the Megalodon you seek there, ready for a fight! Use your cannons and firearms to damage the Megalodon until you have defeated it.
Don’t worry if your ship sinks while fighting the Megalodon. The Megalodon will still be there when you sail back to finish the job.
Once defeated, the Megalodon will not only leave loot behind but its soul in the form of a large green glowing ball. Swim to the soul, equip and raise your Effigy, and interact with the soul to enchant the Effigy.
You’ll know your Effigy is enchanted if the soul disappears, the eyes on your Effigy light up, and your Effigy glows the same glowing green.
Sail back to The Killer Whale at M12 and place your Enchanted Effigy on the Ritual Table.
Step 5: Seek the soul of the Hungering One
Once you choose to seek the soul of the Hungering One, Belle will give you instructions and summoning items. Belle’s Instructions will tell you to summon the Hungering One at Mermaid’s Hideaway.
Once you are on Mermaid’s Hideaway, head to the cliffs on the South West side of the island. You’ll find a cannon there facing West. Equip the Summoning Flare from your Quest Radial and load it into the cannon. The cannon will automatically shoot the flare into the sky and create a light above the area where the Hungering One will spawn.
Head back to your ship and sail to the area the flare highlighted to fight the Hungering One. Once defeated, swim over to the soul it left behind and enchant your Effigy with it.
Sail back to The Killer Whale at M12 and place your Enchanted Effigy on the Ritual Table.
See the cannon location on your map:
Summoning Cannon Location
Step 6: Seek the soul of the ShadowMaw
Once you choose to seek the soul of the ShadowMaw, Belle will give you instructions and summoning items. Belle’s Instructions will tell you to summon the ShadowMaw at Ruby’s Fall.
Once you are on Ruby’s Fall, head to the cliffs to the West in the middle of the island. You’ll find a cannon there facing West. Equip the Summoning Flare from your Quest Radial and load it into the cannon. The cannon will automatically shoot the flare into the sky and create a light above the area where the ShadowMaw will spawn.
Head back to your ship and sail to the area the flare highlighted to fight the ShadowMaw. Once defeated, swim over to the soul it left behind and enchant your Effigy with it.
Sail back to The Killer Whale at M12 and place your Enchanted Effigy on the Ritual Table.

Summoning Cannon Location
Step 7: Seek the soul of the Ancient Terror
Once you choose to seek the soul of the Ancient Terror, Belle will give you instructions and summoning items. Belle’s Instructions will tell you to summon the Ancient Terror at Thieves’ Haven.
Once you are on Thieves’ Haven, head to the cliffs high on the island’s Southside. You’ll find a cannon there facing South. Equip the Summoning Flare from your Quest Radial and load it into the cannon. The cannon will automatically shoot the flare into the sky and create a light above the area where the Ancient Terror will spawn.
Head back to your ship and sail to the area the flare highlighted to fight the Ancient Terror. Once defeated, swim over to the soul it left behind and enchant your Effigy with it.
Sail back to The Killer Whale at M12 and place your Enchanted Effigy on the Ritual Table.
See the cannon location on your map:
Summoning Cannon Location
Step 8: Seek the soul of the Crested Queen
Once you choose to seek the soul of the Crested Queen, Belle will give you instructions and summoning items. Belle’s Instructions will tell you to summon the Crested Queen at Marauder’s Arch.
Once you are on Marauder’s Arch, head to the cliffs on the South West side of the island. You’ll find a cannon there facing West. Equip the Summoning Flare from your Quest Radial and load it into the cannon. The cannon will automatically shoot the flare into the sky and create a light above the area where the Crested Queen will spawn.
Head back to your ship and sail to the area the flare highlighted to fight the Crested Queen. Once defeated, swim over to the soul it left behind and enchant your Effigy with it.
Sail back to The Killer Whale at M12 and place your Enchanted Effigy on the Ritual Table.
See the cannon location on your map:
Summoning Cannon Location
Step 9: Summon the Shrouded Ghost
Once all four Megalodon souls are placed on the Ritual Table, a green swirling light beam will appear in the sky above The Killer Whale. This green beacon means the Ritual Table is primed, and it’s time to summon the Shrouded Ghost.
If you don’t have five pirates present to play the summoning shanty, the green beacon will hopefully draw other pirates in to help!
Once you have a total of five pirates aboard The Killer Whale, equip your instrument of choice and gather close around the Ritual Table. Once everyone is around the Ritual Table, start to play the “Summon the Megalodon” shanty. Continue to play the shanty until you have fully charged the Ritual Table.
After all five pirates play the shanty long enough to charge the Ritual Table, the ritual will be complete, and the encounter with the fabled Shrouded Ghost will begin!
Step 10: Defeat the Shrouded Ghost
The encounter with the Shrouded Ghost consists of four waves. The fourth and final wave will have you fighting the mighty Shrouded Ghost alongside Flameheart’s Ghost Fleet! Make sure you have plenty of Cannonballs and Wooden Planks stocked for this epic fight!
You can always fight from The Killer Whale if your ship sinks. However, if you die, you will spawn wherever your ship is, which could take you away from the fight.
Wave 1: Shrouded Ghost
The first wave of the encounter will have you going head-to-head against the Shrouded Ghost. Use Cannons, Tridents of Dark Tides, and your Firearms to damage the Shrouded Ghost. Once you have dealt enough damage, the Shrouded Ghost will dive to the depths to recover, and the next wave will start.
Wave 2: Flameheart's Ghost Fleet
The second wave will have you vanquishing Ghost Ships from Flameheart’s Ghost Fleet. Once you have defeated enough Ghost Ships, Flameheart’s Fleet will retreat and the next wave will start.
Wave 3: Captain Ghost Ship
Flameheart will escalate the battle and summon one of his Captain Ghost Ships for the third wave. Unfortunately, the Shrouded Ghost has recovered and re-joined the fight, looking for revenge!
Focus on defeating the Captain Ghost Ship and the Shrouded Ghost to complete the wave and move on to the final wave. The Captain Ghost Ship has solid black sails and takes about 10 cannon shots to defeat.
Wave 4: Final Fight!
The final wave will have you fighting both the Shrouded Ghost and Flameheart’s Ghost Fleet! You’ll want to focus on damaging and defeating the Shrouded Ghost to complete the wave.
This wave is the most difficult, and you can easily be overwhelmed. Fortunately, just as all hope might seem lost, Pendragon will show up and keep the Ghost Ships at bay with his formidable galleon while you finish off the Shrouded Ghost.
As soon as you defeat the Shrouded Ghost, Flameheart will see he has lost the race for the Veil of the Ancients and retreat.
Step 11: Speak with Belle
Sail back to The Killer Whale and speak with Belle. Choose the COMPLETE ADVENTURE option to find out if you found the Veil!
Once the Chapter has started, Pendragon will join you aboard The Killer Whale with the Veil of the Ancient in hand! But wait, something is wrong! The mask is incomplete! The Ancient Priest has hidden the power source of the Veil of the Ancients, the Veil Stones. Unfortunately, Flameheart could still use these missing Veil Stones to accomplish his sinister goal.
While we might have retrieved the mask, we still have more work to do!
The Shrouded Deep Deeds
Though you may have completed the Adventure, you will likely still have several Deeds you need to work on after completing the Adventure. You can check which ones you have left in the Adventure Tab.
The Deeds you must complete to unlock the Summoner of Myths title are:
- Add a Hungering One Effigy to Belle’s Ritual Table.
- Add a Crested Queen Effigy to Belle’s Ritual Table.
- Add a ShadowMaw Effigy to Belle’s Ritual Table.
- Add an Ancient Terror Effigy to Belle’s Ritual Table.
- Take part in the Shrouded Ghost summoning ritual.
- Defeat the summoned Shrouded Ghost.
Congratulations!
You’ve just completed the third Adventure! You’ve saved the Veil of the Ancients and should now have a couple of mementos to remember the journey.

If you get sunk, you lose the quest and your quest items.
Huh, when we sunk, we still had everything we needed to collect the soul of the Megalodon that sunk us.
Well, I’m staring at my quest wheel and the items and note are gone.
That’s odd. Did you server merge by chance? Sorry to hear that you sank 🙁 We’ll go try in a bit and see if it happens to us as well. I know the ShadowMaw sunk us the first time we did it though and we were able to kill it and collect its soul still.
I’m guessing it probably had something to do with the Kraken attacking as well. I restarted it and am heading back.
Good luck pirate!
I got sunk one time, when I was traveling back, just got a message “megalodont escaped” and i lost all items and quest
Oh no! Really? Sorry to hear that 🙁 We haven’t had a Megalodon disappear on us. When we died, we were able to sail back and continue the fight.
Arrrrrg. It glitched out for a while, and then I found it again and then it failed me because I took too long… what a waste of time.
Darn! Sorry to hear that pirate 🙁 Was this the Shrouded Ghost that timed out or a different Megalodon?
And you can be krakened while you are fighting the Meg.
I don’t have the option to hunt any megalodon when I talk to belle! I’ve talked to larinna, sailed to the killer whale and she just has a conversation loop with me
Hmm, have you tried talking to Belle on a new server? That’s so odd that you can’t choose one of the Megalodons. Are you currently on a Tall Tale? You can’t do the Adventure if you are.
It’s happened a number of times on lots of different servers, also have no Tall Tales currently in progress. I’ll double check though!
I wish these quests were still available somewhere. I just want to hunt megs but the world spawns are too infrequent. I’m sad that I missed this event 🙁
