The Shrine of Hungering is one of the six Shrines found in the Sunken Kingdom. This Shrine was abandoned by the Sirens long ago. Now it is home to a shiver of sharks that wait for any fearless pirate to enter.
If you dare venture into this menacing Shrine, you will need to slay these lurking sharks to retrieve the coral riches inside successfully!
This guide will walk you through the Shrine, step by step, showing you how to solve the puzzles, uncover each secret, and read every journal found within the Shrine.
You will unlock the Shrine of Hungering and Mystery of the Shrine of Hungering commendations if you follow along.
Don’t forget to store any treasure you find along the way in the Sunken Merfolk Statues!
The Shrine of Hungering: Step by Step
Step 1: Sail to the Shrine of Hungering
You can find the Shrine of Hungering in The Wilds just North of Galleon’s Grave Outpost. You can locate it on your Map Table at the coordinates Q5.
As you sail closer to the Shrine, you will spot purple and blue lights swirling into the sky. These lights help indicate the exact location of the Shrine below the water.
Park your ship within the lights and dive into the water!
Step 2: Enter the Shrine of Hungering
Once you arrive above the Shrine of Hungering, swim down and head to the Nord side of the Shrine, where a giant skeletal ribcage lays.
Where is the entrance to the Shrine of Hungering?
You can find the entrance to the Shrine of Hungering at the base of the Shrine on the Northside. Unlike most entries to the Shrines in the Sunken Kingdom, this one is across from the main structure.
Swim to the base of the Shrine and on the Northside. Once there, face away from the Shrine to the North to find a large cave entrance. Swim through the cave opening and continue along the path. A giant skeletal ribcage should lead the way.
Step 3: Swim to center of Shrine
Swim through the cave, fighting any sharks that cross your path. You’ll also find Undersea Vents along the way to refill your oxygen.
Along the path to the center of the Shrine, you will come across a journal right after the first Undersea Vent. It will be in the hands of a skeleton laying on the ground in the center of several tall green plants. Read it, and you will have uncovered your first secret. The name of this journal is ‘1. Shrine of Hungering’.
Continue along the path, and you’ll pass another Undersea Vent before entering a large chamber with the first Siren Statue Puzzle.
Step 4: Solve the first Siren Statue Puzzle
Once you are in the main chamber, take note of the large mural on the Westside. This mural will inform what position the arms of the Siren Statues need to be in to solve the puzzle.
Chain = Low
Gem = Middle
Coral = High
The Chain Siren Statue is to the right and below the mural. The Gem Siren Statue is to the left and below the mural. And the Coral Siren Statue is just below the mural.
To move the arms of each Siren Statue, you need to damage the statue with your Cutlass or Firearm.
Once you have positioned the three Siren Statue arms correctly, enter the solution by damaging the large Siren Statue holding a conch below the mural.
Submitting the correct solution will cause the water level to rise.
Step 5: Solve the second Siren Statue Puzzle
You can now swim up to a platform in the chamber that has a geyser on it. Stand on the geyser to get to the next level with another Siren Statue Puzzle.
Before solving the puzzle, be sure to read the journal here. It is next to the Ammo Chest, just right of the Gem Siren Statue on the Northside of the chamber. Read it to uncover the second secret of the Shrine! The name of this journal is ‘2. The Warrior’.
After reading the journal, take note of the mural on the South East side of the chamber. Use this mural to solve the next Siren Statue Puzzle.
The puzzle for the Siren Statue is:
Gem = Low
Coral = Middle
Chain = High
All three statues should be to the left of the mural. The Siren Statue to submit your solution is above you, to the Southwest, where you need to go after solving the puzzle. If you enter the correct answer, the water level will rise.
Step 6: Reach the top of the Shrine
After reaching the next platform that just became accessible, you will fight several Coral Skeletons.
Continue up the path. Walk over the kraken spine and then walk over the mast beam.
As soon as you walk off the mast beam, you will see a pile of wooden planks in front of you to the South East. Laying amongst the planks is another journal. Reading it will uncover another secret. The name of this journal is ‘3. The Warrior – Unmasked’.
Hop across some bones sticking out of the wall to the large Megalodon jawbone and dispatch the Coral Skeletons that will ambush you.
Before you shoot the pink Coral Orb to continue through, hop across the platforms made of bones to the North. Hidden in the grass at the base of the Siren Statue across the way will be another journal. Read it to uncover the fourth secret. The name of this journal is ‘4. The High Priest’.
Hop back over to the Megalodon jawbone and hit the pink Coral Orb to go through the Siren Window in the mouth of the Megalodon jawbone.
Next, you will swim through a small tunnel to another Siren Window. At the base of the Siren Window, on the other side, will be the fifth and final journal. Shoot the pink Coral Orb and swim through the airlock to the journal. Read it to uncover the last secret. The name of this journal is ‘5. A Great Evil’.
Step 7: Collect Treasure
Swim past the journal, and you’ll end up in a smaller chamber filled with lots of treasure and sharks to kill.
Store all the treasure you find here in the Sunken Merfolk Statue. Once you have stored all the treasure, you can exit via the Siren Windows or the Sunken Merfolk Statue.
Where is the Breath of the Sea in the Shrine of Hungering?
You can find the Breath of the Sea in the Shrine of Hungering at the very top of the Shrine. To reach the Coral Plinth where the Breath of the Sea sits, you’ll need to solve the two Siren Statue Puzzles and ascend to the final room in the Shrine.
The Breath of the Sea will only be there if you are on an active Coral Message in a Bottle voyage that leads you to this Shrine.
