Scattered throughout Mêlée Island are unique coins called Pieces o’ Eight. Some are in plain sight, sitting on barrels or tables, while others hide inside crates, cupboards, cabinets, and other furniture you can open.
While the single Piece o’ Eight is worth just one coin, the Pieces o’ Eight Pouches can contain three to 45 coins!
You can only use these coins on Mêlée Island during the Tall Tale, so don’t worry about spending them! You’ll need to collect a certain amount at specific parts of the Tall Tale to make progress. However, you’ll need to collect all of them to complete every commendation.
Most are easy to find, but some can be easy to overlook. This guide will show you where you can find Pieces o’ Eight and when you can pick them up.
Before purchasing the Chef's Uniform
You can find 55 Pieces o’ Eight before purchasing the Chef’s Uniform. Once you have the Chef’s Uniform, you can use the Extra-Potent Grog to steal more from Thirsty Pirates, get into the Clock Tower to collect more, and cook a Root Beer Stewed Meat to find more.
Scumm Bar Pieces o' Eight
There are eight crates, two barrels, and a table that you can find Pieces o’ Eight at. Check all 11 spots for possible Pieces o’ Eight.
There are two crates and a barrel that can have Pieces o’ Eight on the main dock behind the Scumm Bar.
There are two crates and a barrel that can have Pieces o’ Eight around the dock house with the winch. One of the crates is just across from the re-election campaign poster, and the other is behind the dock house closest to the mountain.
There are four crates and a barrel that can have Pieces o’ Eight around the outside of the Scumm Bar. One of the crates is on the West side and the other three are on the East side.
And you can pick up five Pieces o’ Eight from a table inside the Scumm Bar.
You won’t be able to steal the Pieces o’ Eight Pouches from the pirates in the bar just yet! You’ll be able to after you get the Chef’s Uniform.
Lookout Point Pieces o' Eight
There is a Pieces o’ Eight Pouch near Lookout at Lookout Point. To steal the Pouch, you’ll need to speak with Lookout. Choose the last dialogue option to distract him so he turns his back to you. Once he looks the other way, you can steal his Pieces o’ Eight Pouch.
Low Street Pieces o' Eight
While Low Street doesn’t have any crates or barrels with coins, there are two crates you can open and a barrel to check the path between Scumm Bar and Low Street.
High Street Pieces o' Eight
In the middle of High Street is a crate you can open with a possible Pieces o’ Eight Pouch inside. There is also a barrel near the crate that you can sometimes find a Piece o’ Eight on.
Church Pieces o' Eight
Inside the Church, you can find Pieces o’ Eight on the long benches on either side of the aisle, inside the cabinets on either side of the podium, and in the tray on one of those cabinets.
Alley Pieces o' Eight
In the Alley between the General Store and Church are two crates and a barrel where you can find Pieces o’ Eight.
At the end of the Alley is a Ghost Pirate named Walt, who is guarding his Pieces o’ Eight Pouch. You can steal it once you have your Chef’s Uniform and cooked the Root Beer Stewed Meat.

Inside the Jail is a cupboard with a Pieces o’ Eight Pouch inside.
Purchase the Chef's Uniform
Once you collect the last Pieces o’ Eight Pouch, you should have 55 Pieces o’ Eight to spend. Head to the General Store on High Street, approach the Chef’s Uniform and purchase it. You can put it on using the nearby Clothing Chest.
After purchasing the Chef's Uniform
After you have purchased the Chef’s Uniform, you can enter the Kitchen and fill your Tankard with the Extra-Potent Grog. You’ll use this to steal more Pieces o’ Eight from Thirsty Pirates.
Scumm Bar Pieces o' Eight
There is a cupboard in the Kitchen with a Pieces o’ Eight Pouch you can now take while wearing the Chef’s Uniform.
You can also steal two Pieces o’ Eight Pouches by giving the Thirsty Pirates they belong to three pours of Extra-Potent Grog. So, fill up your Tankard from the barrel in the Kitchen, find a Thirsty Pirate, pour them three drinks of Extra-Potent Grog, and steal their Pouch.
There is a third Thirsty Pirate who has a Clock Tower Key instead of a Pieces o’ Eight Pouch. Pour him three drinks and steal the Clock Tower Key to open the Clock Tower, where you can collect more coins.

There is a Pieces o’ Eight Pouch at the top of the Clock Tower in the room with the giant gears.
Alley Pieces o' Eight
With the Chef’s Uniform you can now cook a Root Beer Stewed Meat. Once you have made the Root Beer Stewed Meat, pick it up and take it to the food bowl by the poodles in the Alley. They will eat the food and dispatch Walt. With Walt out of the way you can now pick up his Pieces o’ Eight Pouch.
After gaining access to the Governor's Mansion
After you purchase the Chef’s Uniform, recover the missing cargo, repair the clock, and give Murray a new body, you can enter the Governor’s Mansion.

There is a Pieces o’ Eight Pouch in the lower level by the stairs or on the table near the memoir spot. You’ll only find one Pouch in this room, but it can be on either surface.
There is a Pieces o’ Eight in the cabinet inside the office.
And there is a Pieces o’ Eight in the footlocker in the bedroom below the curtain.
After picking up the final Pouch in the bedroom you should have 200 Pieces o’ Eight. With your stash of coins, you’ll want to purchase the History Book from Citizen to complete the ‘Mêlée Island Historian’ commendation.
