The Smugglers’ League and their mysterious client are not alone in their search for ancient secrets buried deep within The Devil’s Roar. Captain Flameheart has decided to excavate one of his Skeleton Forts, Molten Sands Fortress, uncovering ancient structures, a mysterious altar, and, most importantly, an Orb of the Banished.
The Trading Companies have heard about the artifact’s discovery and want it for themselves. They are dispatching their most dedicated Emissaries to find the key and activate the fortress. Once activated, only the bravest pirates will be able to defaet the fearsome foes it summons and plunder the Vault for the Orb.
What is the Molten Sands Fortress World Event?
The Molten Sands Fortress World Event is a player-activated World Event available to all pirates sailing the High Seas. During the World Event, you’ll take on waves of Banished Ancient Skeletons and Captain Flameheart’s fiercest foes, including three Skeleton Lords and an Ashen Lord. Defeating the Ashen Lord on the final wave will reward you with a Stronghold Key you can use to open the Vault and acquire an Orb of the Banished.
However, activating the World Event requires a Molten Sands Key. To get a key, you must complete a time-limited Emissary Quest. The time-limited Emissary Quest will lead you to a large island with an Eternal Guard. Defeating the Eternal Guard will reward you with a Molten Sands Key that you can sell or use to activate Molten Sands Fortress.
Molten Sands Fortress: Step by Step
Step 1: Raise Emissary Flag
To claim the time-limited Emissary Quest that leads to a Molten Sands Key, you’ll first need to reach Emissary Grade V with any Trading Company. Every Trading Company, including the Reaper’s Bones and Hunter’s Call, is offering the Emissary Quest, so you can choose whichever Trading Company you want to represent.
You must be at least Reputation Level 15 with the Trading Company to purchase their Emissary License for 20,000 Gold and represent them. With the Emissary License, you can then vote to represent the Trading Company as an Emissary at their Emissary Table on any Outpost.
The Reaper’s Bones and Hunter’s Call will still have their unique Emissary Grade V ability on top of the time-limited Emissary Quest, so you can expect to find other Emissaries and Ancient Megalodons on the Map Table.
You can claim the Reaper’s Bones Emissary Quest from the Servant of the Flame on The Reaper’s Hideout.
Step 2: Reach Emissary Grade V
After raising an Emissary Flag for your chosen Trading Company, you can perform specific actions such as picking up Trading Company treasure, placing Trading Company treasure on your ship, completing Trading Company Voyages, conquering World Events, and defeating rival Emissaries to raise your Emissary Grade.
Emissary Multiplier
During Act 2 of Season 18, each action you perform to increase your Emissary Grade will grant a larger amount of Emissary than usual, allowing you to reach Grade V much quicker.
While Guilds are not Trading Companies and do not provide an Emissary Quest, the boosted Emissary still applies to Guild Emissaries.
Step 3: Claim Emissary Quest
As soon as you reach Emissary Grade V, you can claim the time-limited Emissary Quest from any Trading Company Representative that you are representing. Claiming the Emissary Quest will add it to your Quest Radial. Once you have the Emissary Quest, don’t dive or leave your sailing session. You’ll lose your Emissary Quest and have to reach Emissary Grade V again.
During Act 2 of Season 18, you will always receive the time-limited Emissary Quest for a Molten Sands Key. After Act 2 ends, the Emissary Quest will return to the normal Quest for Trading Company treasure.
Step 4: Vanquish Eternal Guard
Open up your Quest Radial and equip the Emissary Quest. It will direct you to a large island where you must track down an Eternal Guard and acquire the key it holds. Once you have the key, you can take it to Molten Sands Fortress to find the Orb of the Banished.
Sail to the island, find the sarcophagus holding the Eternal Guard, and summon it. While the Eternal Guard looks different from emergent Eternal Guards, it still behaves the same. You can expect to dodge Blowpipe Darts, Spears, and Poison Bombs during the fight. Defeat the Eternal Guard, and it will drop a Molten Sands Fortress Key.
Step 5: Activate Molten Sands Fortress
After you acquire the Molten Sands Key, you can either sell it to any Trading Company Representative for 35,000 Gold or make your way over to Molten Sands Fortress in The Devil’s Roar to activate the fortress.
If you sell the key, you cannot activate the fortress and will have to reach Emissary Grade V again to claim another Emissary Quest.
Once you arrive at Molten Sands Fortress, head to the center of the fortress, near the tunnel entrance that leads to the Vault. You will find an excavated altar with four Torches. Raise your Lantern to light the four Torches on the altar, and then put the key in the center of the altar to activate the fortress.
If Molten Sands Fortress is already active, you can wait until it ends and activate it again shortly after. You also won’t be able to activate Molten Sands Fortress if the Fort of the Damned is active. Only one player-activated World Event can be active at a time. So, you can still expect World Events like Ashen Winds, Skeleton Fleet, and Fort of Fortune to be active while you take on Molten Sands Fortress.
As soon as you place the key in the altar, the World Event will begin. A giant red skull cloud will appear above the fort, and the first wave of enemies will emerge.
Step 6: Complete Molten Sands Fortress
To complete the Molten Sands Fortress World Event, you must defeat eight waves of challenging enemies, including Banished Ancient Skeletons, Shadow Skeletons, Plant Skeletons, Gold Skeletons, Skeleton Lords, and an Ashen Lord.
- Wave 1: Banished Ancient Skeletons
- Wave 2: The Duchess and multiple Shadow Skeletons
- Wav 3: Banished Ancient Skeletons
- Wave 4: The Two-Faced Scoundrel and multiple Gold Skeletons
- Wave 5: Banished Ancient Skeletons
- Wave 6: The Mutinous Helmsman and multiple Plant Skeletons
- Wave 7: Ashen Skeleton Captain and multiple Ashen Skeletons
- Wave 8: Ashen Lord with and multiple Ashen Skeletons
Defeating the Ashen Lord on the final wave will reward you with a Stronghold Key you can use to open the Vault.
Molten Sands Fortress Vault
Inside the Molten Sands Fortress Vault, you will discover mounds of treasure for every Trading Company. You can expect to find Ashen King’s Chests, Ashen King’s Bounty Skulls, Crates of Precious Gemstones, Kegs of Ancient Black Powder, and Caskets of Battle Bones. Most importantly, you’ll find the Orb of the Banished in a small alcove at the back of the Vault.
If you get every piece out and sell it all, you can expect to make around 200,000 Gold without any Emissary or boosts from selling in The Devil’s Roar.
Also, during Act 2 of Season 18, you can find the Chest of Fortune exclusively inside the Vault of Molten Sands Fortress.
