Jot down yer email, and we’ll be sure to let ye know when there’s something new on the horizon.

With the Veil of the Ancients secure, we can now turn our attention back to Golden Sands. Sadly, the Outpost is still covered in fog and is on the verge of being lost forever.

Merrick is currently stationed at Golden Sands and leading the rebuilding efforts there. He’s already rallied the former residents of the Outpost to help restore it to its former glory. However, he needs even more help if he’s really going to save the Golden Sands.

Meanwhile, The Servant of the Flame has other plans for the Outpost. With the help of other like-minded pirates, he seeks to sacrifice the island and let the shroud consume it.

The future of Golden Sands hangs in the balance. It’s up to us, the pirates of the Sea of Thieves, to pick a side and decide the fate of Golden Sands Outpost!

How does the Lost Sands Adventure work?

The Lost Sands Adventure is the first Adventure where the community will directly impact the story’s outcome and change the world of Sea of Thieves forever. The future of Golden Sands is in your hands!

The Adventure is divided into two paths, with each influencing the fate of Golden Sands one way or the other.

The Hunter’s Path will have you siding with Merrick as you rebuild Golden Sands. Opposite the Hunter’s Path is the Servant’s Path. The Servant’s Path will have you siding with The Servant of the Flame as you work towards making the Outpost forever barren and uninhabitable.

You can complete both paths, allowing you to understand the story and earn every available reward. But, you’ll have to do more than play both sides to sway the fate of Golden Sands your way. During the Adventure, specific actions you can perform will either count towards saving the Outpost or destroying it.

Behind the scenes, the game will keep track of the number of times you have completed these actions. At the end of the Adventure, the efforts of every pirate who participated will be tallied up, and the fate of Golden Sands will be revealed.

How to restore Golden Sands

There are a variety of repeatable actions you can perform to help Merrick and restore Golden Sands. These actions include:

  • Delivering Tina’s Rum Bottles to Merrick
  • Delivering Sharon’s Sailcloth to Merrick
  • Delivering Fruit and Wood Crates to Merrick
  • Delivering stolen Relic Caches to Merrick

How to destroy Golden Sands

There are a variety of repeatable actions you can perform to help the Servant and destroy Golden Sands. These actions include:

  • Delivering Relic Caches to Smugglers
  • Delivering Tina’s Rum Bottles to The Servant of the Flame
  • Delivering Sharon’s Sailcloth to The Servant of the Flame
  • Delivering Relic Caches to The Servant of the Flame
  • Releasing Soulflame Rowboat energy at Golden Sands Outpost

Who's winning?

You can see which side is currently winning during the Adventure by checking out the Adventure Tab or by physically looking at Golden Sands Outpost.

If the Adventure Tab has an image of Merrick and the fog around the Outpost has thinned, you’ll know Merrick’s side is winning.

If the Adventure Tab has an image of both Merrick and the Servant, you’ll know that both sides are even, and it’s too close to call.

If the Adventure Tab has an image of the Servant and the fog around the Outpost has thickened, you’ll know that The Servant of the Flames’ side is winning.

How to complete the Lost Sands Adventure

To complete the Lost Sands Adventure, you must complete the Hunter’s Path by working with Merrick and the Servant’s Path by working with The Servant of the Flame.

Completing the Hunter’s Path will reward you with the Saviour of Golden Sands Sails cosmetic. Completing the Servant’s Path will reward you with the Servant of the Flame’s Lantern cosmetic.

To earn the Victor of Golden Sands title, you’ll need to complete all eleven Deeds for the Adventure. You can see what the Deeds are and your progress towards them in the Adventure Tab.

There are no Checkpoints for this Adventure, so you’ll need to complete each Chapter in one session.

The Lost Sands Adventure will be available to all pirates from May 26th to June 9th, 2022. Unfortunately, after June 9th, you will not be able to partake in the Adventure and earn the three Mementos.

Lost Sands: Step by Step

Step 1: Start the Lost Sands Adventure

To start the Lost Sands Adventure, you’ll need to speak to Larinna at any active Outpost across the Sea of Thieves. You can find her just outside the Tavern.

Once you have found Larinna, speak with her. You’ll see several different dialogue options you can select. Choose the last option, BEGIN ADVENTURE, to let her know you are ready to help the Bilge Rats.

Larinna will then prompt you with two more dialogue options. If you choose the Hunter’s Path option, you will work towards saving the Gold Sands Outpost. If you select the Servant’s Path, you will work towards destroying Gold Sands Outpost.

Hunter's Path

It’s important to note that you cannot start the Adventure if you are actively doing a Tall Tale. You can also cancel the Adventure if you need to via your ship’s Voyage Table like you would a voyage or Tall Tale.

As soon as you choose a path, you will begin Chapter One of the Adventure!

We’ll start this guide with the Hunter’s Path. If you need help with the Servant’s Path, click here to jump ahead!

Step 2: Hunter's Path

You will start the Hunter’s Path as soon as you let Larinna know you want to help with Golden Sands Outpost. After speaking with Larinna, you will receive a note from Larinna. This note will tell you to sail over to Golden Sands Outpost and help Merrick fix the place!

Golden Sands Outpost is in The Shores of Plenty region. You can locate the Outpost on your Map Table at the coordinates D10.

Sail to Golden Sands Outpost and meet with Merrick as soon as you are ready.

Once you have arrived at Golden Sands Outpost, dock your ship on the North West side of the island and make your way to where the Trading Company Emissaries used to be.

Step 3: Speak with Merrick at Golden Sands Outpost

Once at Golden Sands Outpost, you will find Merrick just outside the Trinket Shop in front of the Gold Hoarders tent. Speak with him to complete Chapter One. He will be happy to see you as there’s lots of work to be done!

Talk to Merrick again and choose the [CONTINUE HUNTER’S PATH] option to let Merrick know you are ready to help Golden Sands! Selecting this option will start the second and final chapter of the Hunter’s Path.

Merrick will inform you that a couple of Golden Sands residents have gone missing after leaving for supplies. He’s worried and hopes you can find them.

After Merrick finishes talking, you will receive Merrick’s Instructions.

Talk to Merrick

Step 4: Follow Merrick's Instructions

Merrick’s list of tasks will have you speaking with Tina and Sharon and delivering their supplies.

You will need to complete every one of Merrick’s tasks in one sitting to complete the Chapter. There are no checkpoints, so make sure you have about an hour to sail to each island and deliver the supplies.

You can complete the tasks in any order. For example, you can sail or Cannon Cove and speak with Tina first. Or you could sail to Smuggler’s Bay and speak with Sharon first. As long as each task is crossed off from the list in one sailing session, you will have completed the Chapter.

Merrick's Instructions

Task 1: Speak to Tina at Cannon Cove

Sail to Cannon Cove to find Tina. You will find her by the giant stone on the farthest West beach. She is standing next to a tall post with a yellow banner, so you can’t miss her!

Talk to Tina, and she will tell you what happened to her. A group of Reaper Phantoms smashed up her rowboat and stranded her out here. Tell her you are here to help collect supplies, and she will tell you that she buried her Crate of Rum Bottles on the island. The map to the Crate of Rum Bottles is hiding in the smashed rowboat next to you.

From Tina, turn around and look in the rowboat with the mounted yellow flag. You will see a scroll inside. Pick up the map, and you will receive Tina’s Map. It is an X Marks the Spot Quest for Cannon Cove with one X. At the X, you’ll find the Crate of Rum Bottles you need to deliver to Golden Sands.

Tina on Cannon Cove

Merrick Journal

You can find one of the four Merrick journals on Cannon Cove. So before you leave with the Crate of Rum Bottles, head to the cove on the North West side of the island. Close to the Northside of the cove is a group of large rocks. Near the base of these rocks will be Merrick’s journal lying on the ground.

See exactly where the journal is located on your map:
Merrick Journal on Cannon Cove

Task 2: Bring back Tina's Crate of Rum Bottles

Find the X and dig up the crate. Unfortunately, as soon as you dig up the Crate of Rum Bottles, a group of Reaper Phantoms will ambush you. You can either deal with them or make a run for it with the crate. Either way, you’ll want to head back to Golden Sands Outpost with the crate and safely return them to Merrick.

You’ll want to make sure you don’t jump, fall, or take damage while holding the Crate of Rum Bottles. Delivering the crate in Perfect Condition will unlock one of the eleven Deeds.

Give Tina's Rum Bottles

Task 3: Speak to Sharon at Smuggler's Bay

Sail to Smuggler’s Bay to find Sharon. You will find her on the South West beach by the survivor’s camp. She is standing next to a tall post with a yellow banner, making it easy to spot her.

Talk to Sharon, and she will shout at you. Talk to her about supplies, and she will tell you that she buried her Crate of Sailcloth on the island. She put the map for the crate’s location in the broken nearby rowboat.

Go to the smashed rowboat with the mounted yellow flag and pick up the map. The map is an X Marks the Spot Quest for Smuggler’s Bay with one X. At the X, you’ll find the Crate of Sailcloth you need to deliver to Golden Sands.

Sharon on Smuggler's Bay

Merrick Journal

You can find one of the four Merrick journals on Smuggler’s Bay. So before you leave with the Crate of Sailcloth, head to the Eastside of the bay. Further East of the bell and wooden ruins is a fishing camp where you will find the journal lying on the ground.

See exactly where the journal is located on your map:
Merrick Journal on Smuggler’s Bay

Task 4: Bring back Sharon's Crate of Sailcloth

Equip the map via the Quest Radial and find the X, dig up the crate, and deal with the ambush.

You’ll want to make sure the Crate of Sailcloth does not get wet as you sail back to Golden Sands. So harpoon it from your ship off the island and keep it somewhere safe where the rain or a leak will not damage it. Delivering a Crate of Sailcloth in Perfect Condition will unlock one of the eleven Deeds.

Give Sharon's Sailcloth

Step 5: Speak with Merrick

Once you have crossed all four items off your instruction list, speak with Merrick and choose the [COMPLETE HUNTER’S PATH] to let him know you’ve returned all the cargo safe and sound!

Merrick will tell you how grateful he is for your efforts but that there is still more work to be done! He will ask that you continue to bring him resources to help restore Golden Sands Outpost.

On completing this Chapter, you will receive the Saviour of Golden Sands Sails!

Now that you have helped Merrick, it’s time to see what The Servant of the Flame’s plan is all about.

Merrick Journal

You can find one of the four Merrick journals on Golden Sands Outpost. So before you leave Merrick, head to the Tavern at the center of the Outpost. From the Tavern, walk East to the East isle. After you step off the bridge connecting the main isle to the East isle, you will see the journal lying on the ground to your right.

See exactly where the journal is located on your map:
Merrick Journal on Golden Sands Outpost

Step 6: Speak with Larinna

Go to the nearest active Outpost and speak with Larinna again. This time, choose the Servant’s Path.

Servant's Path

Step 7: Servant's Path

You will start the Servant’s Path as soon as you let Larinna know you want to investigate those strange sightings. After speaking with Larinna, you will receive a note from Larinna. This note will tell you to sail over to Wanderer’s Refuge and see what the shadowy figure is planning!

Wanderer’s Refuge is in The Shores of Plenty region. You can locate the island on your Map Table at the coordinates F12.

Sail to Wanderer’s Refuge and find the shadowy figure as soon as you are ready.

Once you have arrived at Wanderer’s Refuge, dock your ship and make your way to the highest bell on top of the island.

Step 8: Speak with Shadowy Figure at Wanderer's Refuge

Once at Wanderer’s Refuge, head to the island’s highest point, where the highest bell is located. As you approach the bell, you will see a ghostly bird, a Reaper Scout, sitting on the bell and a shadowy figure. The shadowy figure will disappear into the bushes below the three palm trees next to the bell.

Shadowy Figure

From the bushes, face South West and look down the hill. You will see a couple of Reaper Scouts leading to the cannon. Follow the Reaper Scouts to find the same shadowy figure disappearing into the bushes next to the cannon.

Shadowy Figure

From these bushes, face South by South East and spot another trail of Reaper Scouts. Walk South by South East following the Reaper Scouts until you find the shadowy figure standing next to the Graymarrow altar.

The shadowy figure will not disappear this time but reveal himself to be The Servant of the Flame. Speak with him to complete the Chapter. He will welcome you and ask you to meet him at The Reaper’s Hideout.

Shadowy Figure

Servant Journal

You can find one of the four Servant journals on Wanderer’s Refuge. So before you leave the shadowy figure, head to the rocky tunnel that cuts through the large island. On the North West side of the tunnel are a cooking spot and the Servant journal you seek.

See exactly where the journal is located on your map:
Servant Journal on Wanderer’s Refuge

Step 9: Speak with The Servant of the Flame at The Reaper's Hideout

Sail to The Reaper’s Hideout and head to the large building on the island. You’ll find The Servant of the Flame there waiting for you. Speak with him and choose the [CONTINUE SERVANT’S PATH] option to let him know you are ready to serve The Reaper’s Bones.

After he fills you in on his plan, he will give you an Enchanted Servant’s Compass and orders to follow.

Servant Journal

You can find one of the four Servant journals on The Reaper’s Hideout. So before you leave The Servant of the Flame, head to wooden scaffolding just South of the main building on the island. The journal you seek is on the middle floor of the scaffolding, below a wooden path to the cannon.

See exactly where the journal is located on your map:
Servant Journal on The Reaper’s Hideout

Step 10: Follow The Servant's Orders

The Servant’s list of tasks will have you row a Soulflame Rowboat between islands, deliver supplies, and release dark energy on Golden Sands.

You will need to complete every task in one sitting to complete the Chapter. There are no checkpoints, so make sure you have about half an hour to row to each island.

The Servant’s Orders are as follows:

  • Locate your Soulflame Rowboat at The Reaper’s Hideout
  • Row to Twin Groves. collect the Relic Cache from my Smuggler
  • Row to Cannon Cove. Deliver the Relic Cache to my Smuggler
  • Destroy your rowboat at Golden Sands to unleash its energies.

Task 1: Locate Soulflame Rowboat

Use your compass to find your Soulflame Rowboat on The Reaper’s Hideout. As soon as you locate it, jump in it and row it over to your ship. Dock the rowboat, and you’ll be ready for your next task. Your compass will point you towards your next objective as soon as you get in the rowboat.

Soulflame Rowboat

Task 2: Collect Relic Cache from Twin Groves

Sail towards Twin Groves for this next task. Before you are too close, you’ll want to stop your ship and go the rest of the way in the rowboat.

The Reaper’s Smugglers only trust Soulflame Rowboats and will not appear if any ship is too close. So park your ship at least half a square away according to your Map Table to ensure you don’t scare the Reaper’s Smuggler.

Once you’ve made landfall with your rowboat, speak with the Reaper’s Smuggler on the Northside of the island. The Smuggler will give you the Relic Cache you need to deliver for your next task.

Remember, you can always use your Servant’s Compass to find the exact location of the Reaper’s Smuggler if you can’t find them.

Reaper's Smuggler

Servant Journal

You can find one of the four Servant journals on Twin Groves. So before you leave Smuggler, head to the North West beach of the island. You will find the journal there lying on the ground.

See exactly where the journal is located on your map:
Servant Journal on Twin Groves

Task 3: Deliver Relic Cache to Cannon Cove

Sail towards Cannon Cove and park your ship a good distance away. You’ll need to row your rowboat the rest of the way. Row towards the South East beach. You should find another Reaper’s Smuggler there waiting for you to deliver the Relic Cache. If not, try parking your ship further away, as the Smuggler might be too nervous about revealing themselves.

Again, use your Servant’s Compass to find the exact location the Smuggler should be.

Once the Smuggler appears from the bushes, approach them with the Relic Cache and give it to them. Your compass will update and point you towards Golden Sands Outpost.

Reaper's Smuggler

Servant Journal

You can find one of the four Servant journals on Cannon Cove. So before you leave for Golden Sands to release your Soulflame Rowboat, head to the cove on the North West side of the island. The journal is lying on the ground just next to the beach camp and the abandoned rowboat.

See exactly where the journal is located on your map:
Servant Journal on Cannon Cove

Task 4: Destroy rowboat at Golden Sands

Row over to Golden Sands Outpost. Beach your rowboat on a secluded part of the island and light the fuse. The rowboat will detonate in giant green explosion. You will get a notification letting you know that you successfully blew up your rowboat at Golden Sands Outpost.

Head back to your ship and sail over to The Servant of the Flame back at The Reaper’s Hideout.

Soulflame Rowboat Destroyed

Step 11: Speak with The Servant of the Flame

Once at The Reaper’s Hideout, speak with The Servant of the Flame to complete the Chapter.

On completing this Chapter, you will receive The Servant of the Flame’s Lantern.

The Lost Sands Deeds

Though you may have completed the Adventure, you will likely still have several Deeds you need to work on after completing the Adventure. You can check which ones you have left in the Adventure Tab.

The Deeds you must complete to unlock the Victor of Golden Sands title are:

  • Speak with Merrick.
  • Speak with a shadowy figure.
  • Deliver Tina’s Crate of Rum Bottles in perfect condition.
  • Deliver Sharon’s Crate of Sailcloth in perfect condition.
  • Safely destroy a stolen Soulflame Rowboat.
  • Smuggle a Relic Cache.
  • Destroy your Soulflame Rowboat near Golden Sands.
  • Read one of Merrick’s journals.
  • Read all of Merrick’s journals.
  • Read one of The Servant’s journals.
  • Read all of the Servant’s journals.

Congratulations!

You’ve just completed the fourth Adventure, but it’s not over yet! You have an important decision to make! Continue to help Merrick or help The Servant of the Flame throughout the Adventure to decide the fate of Golden Sands.

Forgot about the last Merrick journal

Syed

There’s a bug with Reapers Hideout rowboat. Can’t find it.

John Brady

There is a I hope a bug for merrick side.
When fighting phantoms after recovering the rum, aside from being an inordinate amount of them, the last one had infinite hp (alive well after 100 melee hits), eventually killed me and then all the phantom respawns reset.
So the guide part of fight or run is not good.
