As Captain Flameheart continues to uncover powerful Ancient relics, he also seeks to build an unstoppable army of loyal warriors. Using an enchanted Lantern, you can find his lost servants, the Followers of the Flame, and rally them once more to his cause.

However, tread carefully! The Ancients will do everything in their power to stop you from aiding Flameheart in his wicked pursuit to control the Sea of Thieves!

What is the Followers of the Flame Voyage?

The Followers of the Flame is a multi-phase Reaper’s Bones Voyage. During the Voyage, you will use an enchanted Lantern to find and resurrect several Follower of the Flame Skeletons. After you recover the Skeletons, you will complete a ritual to seal them inside a Chest of Bones.

Along the way, you must repel waves of Ancient Phantoms trying to stop you from completing the ritual. Finishing the ritual and sealing the Chest of Bones will complete the Voyage.

Flag of The Reaper's Mark

As the Followers of the Flame is a Reaper’s Bones Voyage, you will be visible to all pirates on the Map Table as soon as you start. Voting for the Voyage will automatically equip the Flag of The Reaper’s Mark to your ship, marking you on the Map Table for everyone to see. You cannot remove the flag using the Ship’s Flag Box. The only way to lower it is to complete or cancel the Voyage.

Since you’ll already be visible to every pirate around, you should sail as Reaper’s Bones Emissary to take advantage of the Emissary Grade you’ll receive throughout the Voyage.

How do you start the Followers of the Flame Voyage?

To start the Followers of the Flame Voyage, go to your Quest Table, choose Voyages, and then select the Reaper’s Bones Trading Company. Under Reaper Rituals, you’ll see Followers of the Flame. You don’t need to be a specific Reaper’s Bones or Servants of the Flame Reputation Level to start it.

As the Voyage is for the Reaper’s Bones, a Trading Company exclusive to the High Seas, the Followers of the Flame Voyage is only available in the High Seas.

The Devil's Roar

There is also an Ashen Followers of the Flame Voyage for those brave enough to enter The Devil’s Roar! The Devil’s Roar variant of the Voyage will reward you with Devil’s Roar Reaper’s Bones treasures for the Reaper of Ashen Offerings Commendation. You will also receive an Ashen Chest of Bones, which is worth more than the standard chest.

Followers of the Flame: Step by Step

Step 1: Start the Voyage

Vote on the Voyage from your Quest Table to start the Followers of the Flame Voyage. You can either Sail or Dive to the Voyage.

Once you’ve voted for and started the Followers of the Flame Voyage, you will receive one Quest that you can open from your Quest Radial. The Quest will direct you to a large island where you must meet with a contact, a Reaper Parrot, to revive lost Followers of the Flame.

Step 2: Sail to Island

The large island will be nearby if you vote to Sail. If you vote to Dive, you will emerge in front of a random large island after traveling beneath the waves.

Step 3: Meet Contact

Once on the island, it’s time to find the contact. You will use the directional clue from the Quest to find the contact’s location. The contact you are looking for is a Reaper Parrot with a red glowing Lantern perched on a wooden stand.

Each directional clue provides a direction and a landmark to help narrow down the Reaper Parrot’s location. If you have a clue like “Meet Contact Near South Beach Shack,” you know to search the island’s South side and look for a wooden or stone structure.

The Reaper Parrot will make noise when you get close to it, making it easier to find its exact location. The Lantern’s red glow can also help you spot the Reaper Parrot from a distance.

If you are having trouble finding the Reaper Parrot, start from the island’s center and fan out in the direction the clue mentions. Sometimes, the Reaper Parrot is closer to the island’s center than you would think.

Once you find the Reaper Parrot, you should see a red glowing Lantern hanging from the wooden stand.

Interact with the Lantern, the Follower’s Flame Lantern, to pick it up and add it to your Quest Radial.

Follower's Flame Lantern

The Follower’s Flame Lantern is an enchanted Lantern that you can use to locate buried Follower of the Flame Skeletons during the Voyage.

When raised, the Lantern will allow you to hear and feel the heartbeat of a lost Follower of the Flame. The closer you are to a buried Skeleton, the faster the heartbeat. The flame inside the Lantern will also grow brighter and larger the closer you get to a buried Skeleton.

So, raise the Follower’s Flame Lantern and explore the island to follow the heartbeat. If the heartbeat’s speed increases and the flame grows, you are heading in the right direction.

When you get close enough to the buried Follower of the Flame, the Lantern will reveal a red ring pulsing in and out around the exact spot you need to dig to find the Skeleton. Follow the ring to its center to discover the Skeleton’s resting place marked by a disturbed patch of ground. You can then equip your shovel, dig up the Skeleton, and revive it.

After you dig up and revive the Skeleton, the Lantern will reset and guide you to the next Skeleton.

Step 4: Dig and revive Followers of the Flame

Using the Follower’s Flame Lantern, track down, dig up, and revive three Follower of the Flame Skeletons buried across the island. Each Skeleton you revive will show their gratitude by digging up a nearby piece of Reaper’s Bones treasure. After that, they will help you dig up the remaining Skeletons and fight off any foes in your way.

The Order of Bone and Blade Skeletons you dig up will have ‘Follower of the Flame’ in their name so that you can distinguish them from other Order of Bone and Blade Skeletons you might have in your service.

Step 5: Seal bones inside Chest of Bones

After you find all three Followers of the Flame, it’s time to locate a buried Chest of Bones. However, you are looking for an unsealed Chest of Bones. Once you find the chest, you’ll need to perform a ritual to seal the Skeletons you recovered inside before you can use it.

Instead of using the Follower’s Flame Lantern to find the buried chest, the Followers of the Flame Skeletons will lead you to it. You’ll need to watch out for Ancient Phantoms that will start appearing to stop you from finding the chest. As soon as you begin to dig up the chest, the Ancient Phantoms will stop their attack.

After you’ve dug up the Chest of Bones, you can interact with the chest to seal it and begin the ritual. The Followers of the Flame Skeletons will gather nearby to perform the ritual. Once it is complete, it will seal their bones inside, rewarding you with a sealed Chest of Bones.

Chest of Bones

A Chest of Bones is a less powerful version of the Reaper’s Chest. You can still sell it to the Reaper’s Bones for Gold and Reputation. However, it does not emit a beacon for everyone to see. You can only track it on the Map Table. It also summons fewer Order of Bone and Blade Skeletons without any Captains when you break the seal than a Reaper’s Chest.

Also, unlike Reaper’s Chests, you cannot find them in shipwrecks or inside the Fort of the Damned. You can only get a Chest of Bones from the Followers of the Flame Voyage.

If you acquire an Ashen Chest of Bones, you can expect it to summon 24 Order of Bone and Blade Skeletons instead of 18.
