The Festival of the Damned has returned with a ghoulish bag of tricks and treats to haunt the Sea of Thieves! If you’re brave enough to join the frightful fun, you can earn festive cosmetics to celebrate the spooky season long after the Event ends!
What is the Festival of the Damned Event?
During the Festival of the Damned, you can claim login rewards, unlock cosmetics for completing Event Goals, earn Doubloons, and uncover Mega Stashes!
To complete the Event Goals and earn Doubloons, you must use two of the login rewards you receive for the Event: the Bucket of Confections Emote and Soulflame Mask. To find the Mega Stashes, you’ll need to summon your own courage and take on a Fort of the Damned!
As with all Sea of Thieves Live Events, you must be sailing the High Seas to participate and unlock the cosmetics.
The Festival of the Damned runs from October 27th, 10 am UTC to November 3rd, 10 am UTC, 2026.
Login Rewards
Setting sail anytime during the Festival of the Damned will earn you several login rewards. The first, the Soulflame Mask, is yours to keep, though it only summons Soulflame Skeletons at the Fort of the Damned during the Festival.
The second is the Bucket of Confections Emote, a temporary Emote you will only have during the Event.
The third is a daily Legendary Search for the Skull of Destiny Voyage, which you’ll find under Limited Voyages at your Quest Table.
Equip both the Mask and Emote as soon as you can, since you’ll need each to complete the two Event Goals. You can find them in your Clothing Chest after you’ve unlocked them.
With your rewards equipped, you are ready to take on the Goals!
Ghoulish Confections
Ghoulish Confections can be given out during this Event by using the Bucket of Confections Emote. Give out enough of them as a community to unlock the Spiritfire Makeup!
The first Event Goal, Ghoulish Confections, is a Community Spirit Goal that requires you and your fellow pirates to give out Ghoulish Confections using the Bucket of Confections Emote. Once the community achieves the Goal, anyone who participated by handing out at least one Ghoulish Confection will unlock the Spiritfire Makeup.
To contribute, first equip the Bucket of Confections Emote from your Clothing Chest. With the emote equipped and ready to use, find another pirate and use the emote near them so they can take a Ghoulish Confection. The other pirate can be on your crew or a rival crew.
Progress on the Goal comes from how many pirates hand out confections, not how many confections get handed out. One pirate handing out ten confections counts as one, while ten pirates handing out one each count as ten, so we’ll need all hands on deck to achieve the Goal!
Every pirate can hold three Ghoulish Confections at a time, in addition to any Food they already have. Eating a confection causes a random effect, some treats and some tricks! You might encounter one that transforms you into a spooky costume, another that causes you to breathe fire, and another that zaps nearby foes with lightning!
Don’t worry if the community reaches the Goal before you can give out a Ghoulish Confection. You’ll still get the Makeup if you hand out at least one before the Event ends.
You can only use the Bucket of Confections Emote during the Festival of the Damned, so use it as much as you can before the Event ends. Once the Festival of the Damned ends, you will no longer find the Emote in your Clothing Chest.
Ghoulish Confection Effects
The reactions you can expect from eating a Ghoulish Confection are:
- Terrifying Costume Transformations – Transforms you into a variety of spooky costumes for 2 minutes.
- Frightful Fire Breath – Breathe fire and defeat enemies for 7 seconds.
- Chilling Chained Lightning – A lightning zap that chains from the pirate to nearby enemies, chaining with up to 5 targets.
- Shocking Shock Wave – An explosion that sends your enemies flying!
- Helpful Healing – A full health bar & Food regen meter.
- Mystic Regen – Instant health regeneration, restoring 5 health for 20 seconds.
- Thrilling Dance Moves – This tasty little number fills you with the uncontrollable urge to dance. These effects last for 10 seconds.
- Nap of the Damned – There’s nothing like a quick snooze in the middle of a fight. This confection’s effects last for 10 seconds.
- Villainous Vomiting – Uh oh! This sweet will make you throw up!
Soulflame Skeletons
Wear the Soulflame Mask at the Fort of the Damned to summon elusive Soulflame Skeletons! If caught, they’ll drop Doubloons for you and your crew. Defeat enough of them to earn the Candlelight of the Damned Lantern!
The second Event Goal, Soulflame Skeletons, requires you to defeat Soulflame Skeletons at an active Fort of the Damned. Completing the Goal rewards you with the Candlelight of the Damned Lantern! Each Soulflame Skeleton you or a rival crew dispatches will also reward you with a Doubloon.
You won’t find Soulflame Skeletons at the Fort of the Damned without at least one pirate there wearing the Soulflame Mask. Wearing a Soulflame Mask at an active Fort of the Damned periodically summons Soulflame Skeletons. The more pirates who wear the mask, the more often Soulflame Skeletons appear.
With just one pirate wearing the mask, you can expect a Soulflame Skeleton to appear about once a minute.
Each time any pirate dispatches one, every pirate there, regardless of crew, earns a Doubloon and progresses toward the Goal. You don’t have to land the final blow to get credit.
Like Ancient Skeletons, Soulflame Skeletons will try to flee once spotted. Listen for the clanging coins as they emerge from the ground to get the jump on them. You’ll have to defeat them before they dig back into the ground.
Use your Legendary Search for the Skull of Destiny Voyage to get a Skull of Destiny, sail to the Fort of the Damned, and activate it! Along with Soulflame Skeletons, the fort might be hiding an extra special treat!
Fort of the Damned Mega Stash
You could uncover a Mega Stash at the Fort of the Damned with high-value loot and a Bilge Rats Doubloon Crate. Use the free daily Skull of Destiny Voyage to take your chance!
During the Festival of the Damned, you can find a Mega Stash inside a Fort of the Damned Vault. The Mega Stash includes high-value treasures such as a Doubloon Crate and a Chest of Fortune. Mega Stashes aren’t guaranteed, and you won’t know whether the Vault has one until you complete the fort and crack it open.
