Before you can take on a rival crew in a Faction Battle, you’ll need to prove yourself worthy to the Hourglass of Fate. Ambition alone won’t cut it, as every pirate on your crew must fulfill several requirements before you can pledge your allegiance and battle for glory.

Faction Battle Entry Requirements

You must complete several requirements before participating in Faction Battles. The requirements include:

  • Completing the Maiden Voyage
  • Completing the Tutorial Voyages for the Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, and Merchant Alliance Trading Companies
  • Reaching Reputation Level 25 with The Reaper’s Bones Trading Company

Every pirate in your crew must complete the requirements to interact with the Hourglass of Fate on your ship. If even one pirate is not eligible, then the Hourglass of Fate will be locked, and you cannot pledge your allegiance to a Faction.

If you have already pledged to a Faction, then a pirate who does not meet the requirements will not be able to join your crew. The ineligible pirate will receive a notification informing them that they cannot join as they do not meet the requirements for Faction Battles.

Maiden Voyage

Not only is completing the Maiden Voyage a requirement for Faction Battles, but it is also a requirement for all pirates before you can even enter the Sea of Thieves, including High Seas, Safer Seas, and The Legend of Monkey Island.

You must complete the Maiden Voyage. You can not leave the Maiden Voyage early, accept an invite to another player’s crew, or quit the game to skip the requirement. Until you complete the Maiden Voyage, you won’t be able to sail the sea.

Tutorial Voyages

The second requirement is completing the Tutorial Voyages for the Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, and Merchant Alliance. Similar to the Maiden Voyage, you must complete the Tutorial Voyages in full and can not leave early to be considered complete.

Reaper's Bones Reputation Level 25

The third and final requirement is reaching Reputation Level 25 with the Reaper’s Bones. To level up your Reputation Level with the Reaper’s Bones, you must sail the High Seas. By sailing the High Seas with rival crews on the horizon, you are proving to both the Guardians of Fortune and Servants of the Flame that you are ready to take part in Faction Battles!
