The Sea of Thieves offers a wide range of exciting experiences you can start as soon as you begin your adventure. From digging up treasure on an active volcano to taking on a crew of wanted Skeleton Captains, you are always just a vote away from getting into the action. However, until now, some of the most engaging experiences, the many World Events, were left up to chance encounters. You could spend a whole sailing session and never find a Skeleton Fort or Ghost Fleet.
Now, with the introduction of the Quest Table, you can dive straight to almost any World Event on demand by simply voting for a Raid Voyage from your ship, anywhere, at any time!
What are Raid Voyages?
Raid Voyages are player-activated World Events you can dive to using your Quest Table. When you choose to do a Raid Voyage from your Quest Table, it will be on behalf of a Trading Company like any other Voyage. Also, like other Trading Company Voyages, you must raise your Reputation Level to unlock them. The higher your Reputation Level, the more challenging and rewarding World Events you’ll have access to.
While the mechanics of an on-demand World Event will be the same as an emergent World Event, the treasure you claim for completing the World Event is not.
Instead of the World Event rewarding you with various treasures from multiple Trading Companies, on-demand World Events will have fewer high-value rewards exclusive to the Trading Company the Voyage is for.
So, for example, if you choose the Gold Hoarder Raid Voyage, A Raid on a Skeleton Fort, you can expect to find about 20,000 Gold worth of Gold Hoarder chests and trinkets inside the fort’s vault.
Gold Hoarders Skeleton Fort Vault
While you will make more Gold from doing an emergent Skeleton Fort, around 35,000 Gold, you will make less for the Gold Hoarders in particular. Making more Gold and Reputation for one Trading Company makes Raid Voyages great for Emissaries.
Emergent Skeleton Fort Vault
You can choose Raid Voyages for every World Event except the Fort of Fortune, Fort of the Damned, and Kraken. You can still only encounter those by sailing to them. On top of the World Events that have clouds in the sky, you can also choose a Raid Voyage for Sea Forts and Siren Treasuries!
How do Raid Voyages work?
Even though you can now create World Events on-demand, only one can still be active at a time. So, if you vote to start a Raid Voyage, you will dive and resurface on a new server with the World Event you voted for.
You will never dive and resurface at an in-progress World Event. Likewise, other crews will never dive and resurface at a World Event you started. You will always dive to an uncontested emergent World Event. When you are below waves, you will search for a vacant emergent World Event and resurface when you’ve found one. The emergent World Event will then turn into the on-demand World Event.
When a Raid Voyage takes over an emergent World Event, the treasure inside its vault will change to the Trading Company-specific treasure.
The on-demand World Event taken over by a Raid Voyage will remain active even if the crew that started it cancels the Voyage or leaves. The treasure will also remain tailored to the Trading Company the Raid Voyage is for.
Even though another crew can’t dive to you, you’ll still need to be mindful of other crews on the server that can sail to the World Event. The cloud above the World Event is still visible for everyone to see!
Unlike Hourglass Faction Battles, where you sink and change servers, you will stay on the server, whether you sink by self-inflicted damage or from another crew. You don’t need to worry about being teleported away from your Raid Voyage.
World Events vs. Raid Voyages
There are two types of World Events: emergent World Events that are game-activated and on-demand World Events that are player-activated from Raid Voyages.
You must sail to an emergent World Event while you will dive to an on-demand World Event after voting for the Voyage on your Quest Table.
Emergent World Events reward lots of treasure for multiple Trading Companies, while Raid Voyage World Events reward less high-value treasure for only one Trading Company. Unlike Emergent World Events that anyone, regardless of Reputation Level, can partake in, you must unlock Raid Voyages by raising your Reputation Level for a Trading Company.
There is nothing to distinguish between an emergent World Event and a Raid Voyage World Event other than the rewards you claim at the end.
While starting your chosen World Event by simply voting for it is convenient, there is still an incentive to sail to emergent World Events for the large amount of treasure they offer.
Whether the World Event is an Emergent or Raid Voyage World Event, any crew in the server can see it on the horizon and sail toward it to participate.
Raid Voyage Treasure
There are dozens of treasures that you can only find during Voyages you start through the Quest Table. However, you can only find some of those Voyage-exclusive pieces of loot during a Raid Voyage.
The Gold Hoarders Hoarder’s Reliquary, the Merchant Alliance Scroll, the Order of Souls Eye of Souls, and the Athena’s Fortune Talismans are all locked away in the loot pile of World Events started by a Raid Voyage that has a cloud above them. That means you can only find them in the Ashen Winds, Skeleton Fort, Skeleton Fleet, and Burning Blade on-demand World Events.
The value of these unique pieces of treasure also varies depending on the difficulty of the World Event. For example, you’ll receive 5,000 Gold for an Eye of Souls from an Ashen Winds World Event and 15,000 Gold for an Eye of Souls from a Burning Blade World Event.
How do you start a Raid Voyage?
To begin a Raid Voyage, you can vote for a World Event you have unlocked from the Quest Table on your ship. Like Hourglass Faction Battles, after voting for the Raid Voyage, you will sail to the open sea and dive below the water, eventually emerging on a new server before the World Event you started. However, you must be clear of any island or threat before diving.
After diving to a Raid Voyage, you have to wait ten minutes before you can dive again unless you finish the World Event, in which case you immediately dive again.
How do you unlock Raid Voyages?
Raid Voyages unlock based on your Reputation Level in the Trading Company the Raid Voyage is for.
The three core Trading Companies have similar requirements, while Athena’s Fortune Raid Voyages have slightly different requirements.
The Raid Voyage Level Unlocks for the Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, and Merchant Alliance are:
