Being a captain in the Sea of Thieves comes with many privileges. One of them, as you might expect, is naming your ship! You see, every famous captain has an equally famous vessel.
So whether you decide to strike fear into your fellow pirates or make them feel at ease, you’ll need to choose your ship’s name wisely. You and your ship will be one as you sail the sea as a mighty captain!
While naming your ship is a significant decision, don’t worry! You can always rename it later using your Ancient Coins through the Pirate Emporium if you have a change of heart.
How to name your Ship
You can name your ship as soon as you purchase it from the ‘My Ships’ menu before setting sail on your next adventure.
The ship name is limited to twenty characters, and you cannot use numbers or special characters. You also cannot end or start the name with a space.
With twenty characters to use (five more than pet names), you have even more freedom to choose the perfect name for your trusty vessel!
Just make sure you are confident in your choice! To change your ship’s name, you’ll need to spend Ancient Coins in the Pirate Emporium for the Ship Renaming Deed.

How to rename your ship
To rename your ship, you must purchase and use a Ship Renaming Deed. You can buy a Ship Renaming Deed from the Captaincy section in the Pirate Emporium using Ancient Coins. Renaming your ship allows you to change the ship’s name without losing any of the ship’s progress towards Milestones.
The Ship Renaming Deed costs 499 Ancient Coins and will allow you to change your ship name once.
You can change the name of your ship as many times as you would like. However, you need to purchase the Ship Renaming Deed each time.
Once you have the Ship Renaming Deed, select the ship you want to edit from the ‘My Ships’ section in the ‘Set Sail’ menu. Then, select the ‘Rename Ship’ option to change your ship’s name.
