Rare is celebrating its 40th anniversary! To partake in the festivities, you can collect and adorn various red and gold Sea of Thieves cosmetics! Throughout August, you’ll have several opportunities to unlock pieces from the Rare Ruby cosmetic set.
From redeeming Microsoft Reward points to claiming a login bonus, there will be plenty of ways to grab some Rare Ruby cosmetics to decorate your pirate and ship with.
Rare Ruby Hat
You can get the Rare Ruby Hat in one of two ways. To get the hat, you can complete the Sea of Thieves Red Ruby Hat Punchcard or redeem Microsoft Reward points for the Rare Ruby Lost Chest Pack on the official Microsoft Rewards site.
To complete the punchcard, you’ll need to:
- Activate the punchcard on the Microsoft Rewards page
- Visit the Sea of Thieves official site
- Search with Microsoft Bing at least one time a day for five days
- Search with Microsoft Bing at least one time a day for five days
- Claim the Rare Ruby Hat
You have until October 4, 2025 to complete the punchcard.
For either option, ensure you are logged into the Microsoft account associated with your Sea of Thieves pirate. You won’t receive credit for your searches or visits if you are not logged into the correct account.
As soon as you complete the punchcard or redeem your points, the Rare Ruby Hat will be available to equip from your Clothing Chest.
As with all Microsoft promotions, you’ll need to be in a participating region to participate. You can check out your region’s supported services here.
Rare Ruby Eyepatch
To get the Rare Ruby Eyepatch, you must set sail in the Sea of Thieves between August 14th and the September 1st. As the Rare Ruby Eyepatch is a login bonus, you will receive it as soon as you set foot in the Sea of Thieves. The eyepatch will be in your Vanity Chest once it’s unlocked.
Rare Ruby Emote
To get the Rare Ruby Emote, you must have Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and claim the Sea of Thieves XGPU Perk.
You can claim the perk on your Xbox console, Game Pass tab of the Xbox app on mobile, or Xbox app on Windows PC.
You’ll have until October 4th to claim the emote.
Outpost Stock
As soon as Season 17 launches on August 14th, you’ll be able to purchase a variety of cosmetics from Outposts shops. These items include:
- Red Buckled Boots
- Red Sailor Bandana
- Red Stitched Shirt
- Ruby Celebrations Eyeshadow
- Ruby Celebrations Lipstick
- Ruby Celebrations Makeup
Pirate Emporium
Starting August 14th when Season 17 launches you can purchase the Ruby Reaper’s Mark Sails from the Pirate Emporium for a limited time.

Since you are usually a “guide” website – I am disappointed that it is NOT MENTIONED that this hat is REGION locked – and to which region – also WHY? Isn’t Rare Thief Affiliate Alliance that should know WHY this is region locked?
Ahoy there! Sorry about not mentioning that! We added a bit about it and also linked to a page that lets you look up your region to see if it can participate in Microsoft Rewards. Unfortunately, this promotion is similar to all other Microsoft promotions, not Rare Ltd., and is region-locked.

Are you logged into Bing? If so, make sure it is the same account that you are using for the punchcard/Sea of Thieves.
