There are expensive new skulls to find throughout the Sea of Thieves. One of the most elusive and valuable is the Wrathful King’s Bounty Skull. However, you won’t find one of these kingly skulls during a Voyage or inside the vault of a Siren Treasury. Instead, you must scan the horizon and scour the beaches to find them!
King's Bounty Skull
The King’s Bounty Skull is a rare Kingly treasure you can discover randomly in the Sea of Thieves. Specifically, you can find King’s Bounty Skulls in emergent shipwrecks, Bounty Quests from Messages in a Bottle, and emergent Skeleton Captains, including Ashen Guardians.
While you are not guaranteed to find a King’s Bounty Skull from shipwrecks or Messages in a Bottle, you will always receive one for killing an emergent Skeleton Captain.
Shipwrecks, Messages in a Bottle, and Skeleton Captains are random occurrences.
To find a shipwreck, look for a large flock of seagulls circling above open water. Beneath the seagulls will be a shipwreck.
To find a Message in a Bottle, scan the beaches of every island you pass and look for a green colored bottle sticking out of the sand. You can also find them inside emergent shipwrecks. The Message in a Bottle can contain several types of Quests. If you are looking for a King’s Bounty Skull, you want a Bounty Quest that leads you to an island with wanted Skeleton Captains.
To find a Skeleton Captain or Ashen Guardian, scan the beaches of every island you pass and look for a skeleton with an orange title above its head. Killing a Skeleton Captain will reward you with a Wrathful King’s Bounty Skull, and killing an Ashen Guardian will reward you with an Ashen King’s Bounty Skull.
How much is a King's Bounty Skull worth?
Wrathful King’s Bounty Skulls are worth about 5,100 Gold and Ashen King’s Bounty Skull are worth about 5,800 Gold. You can sell King’s Bounty Skulls to the Order of Souls, Reaper’s Bones, or the Sovereigns.
Selling enough kingly treasure will unlock the Cartographer Cutlass and Eye of Reach.
