Another mystery is afoot! The mystery of the Wayfinder!
Those of you who have been moving contraband for the Smugglers’ League might have already started working out the mystery without even knowing! Solving the mystery will reveal who the mysterious client is, reward you with the Gift of the Widow Curse, and unlock the Friends in High Places Commendation.
However, before you can unlock the Friends in High Places Commendation, you must have completed several other Commendations, including Super Smuggler, Clandestine Contact, Trader of Banished Tablets, Smuggler of Banished Keys, and Ducal Disciple. Depending on what you have already achieved, you can skip ahead to what you still have to do.
If you are starting to unravel the mystery from the beginning, you’ll want to speak with Low-Tide Lottie to complete her request and unlock the Clandestine Contact Commendation.
Clandestine Contact
To complete the Clandestine Contact Commendation, you must complete Lottie’s request. However, before you can begin Lottie’s request, you’ll need to gain her trust by unlocking the Super Smuggler Title.
To unlock the Super Smuggler Title, you must complete all 18 Smugglers’ Tide Commendations and unlock the Super Smuggler Legendary Commendation. As soon as you achieve the Legendary Commendation, you will unlock the Title.
As you completed various Commendations on your way to becoming a Super Smuggler, you also unlocked various Smuggler cosmetics that you’ll need to complete her request. Before starting your journey, make sure you have purchased the following items:
- Smuggler Gloves
- Smuggler Jacket
- Smuggler Belt
- Smuggler Trousers
- Smuggler Boots.
- Smugglers’ League Illicit Ink Tattoo
- Fox of Guile Trinket
- Current of Darkness Trinket
- Steel of Waves Trinket
- Wolf of Strength Trinket
- The Fabled Four Trinket
You can purchase the cosmetics from any Clothing Shop and the Trinket from any Shipwright.
Equip all the clothing, cosmetics, tattoo, and Super Smuggler Title, and head to Crescent Isle to speak with Low-Tide Lottie.
Equip all the clothing, cosmetics, tattoo, and Super Smuggler Title, and head to Crescent Isle to speak with Low-Tide Lottie. You will see an additional dialogue option, “Would you say I’m trusted now that I look the part with the Smugglers’ uniform and the title of ‘Super Smuggler’?”
Choose the dialogue option, and Lottie will direct you to the hideout on Wanderer’s Refuge. If you have all your clothing equipped and Trinkets ready to go, then you can head off to Wanderer’s Refuge!
Wanderer's Refuge
Jump onto your ship and set sail to Wanderer’s Refuge. Once there, head toward the large rocky tunnel that cuts through the middle of the island. Hug the South West tunnel wall to find a narrow cave entrance. Walk into the cave, and you will enter the hideout.
If you have all seven pieces of Smuggler cosmetics equipped, you should be able to interact with the map on the table and the shelf hanging near the locked door.
Place ‘The Fabled Four’ Trinket above the shelf to the left of the door, and then turn your attention to the map to the right of the door.
You will need to solve a puzzle by placing the four Smugglers’ League ship Trinkets in the correct arrangement on the map.
Using clues from the Smugglers’ Chronicles that you collected in Smugglers’ Caches and Shipwrecks, you will place the Trinkets in the following layout:
- Fox of Guile on South East side of map
- Wolf of Strength Trinket on North East side of map
- Current of Darkness Trinket on North West side of map
- Steel of Waves Trinket on South West side of map
If you have placed the Trinkets correctly, the locked door will open. Head inside, follow the path, and speak with the client waiting for you at the end. After the conversation ends, you will unlock the Clandestine Contact Commendation and can continue working on the Friends in High Places Commendation.
The next step is to meet with Duke and complete the Ducal Disciple Commendation.
Ducal Disciple
To complete Ducal Disciple, you will first need to unlock two additional Secrets of the Banished Commendations related to the Smugglers’ League.
The Commendations you must complete before you can begin working on the Client’s requests are:
- Trader of Banished Tablets
- Smuggler of Banished Keys
With those Commendations complete and the Clandestine Contact Commendation you just unlocked, you can talk to the Client and begin to work on the Ducal Disciple Commendation.
Speak with Client
Sail over to Duke’s current location and speak with him. After talking with him, he will direct you to read three of Belle’s journals that she’s left behind at the Sanctuaries of the Banished. As he mentioned, he doesn’t have the complete picture yet and is hoping the journals can fill in some gaps.
Read Belle's Journals in all three Sanctuaries of the Banished
Belle has left a journal at each of the three Sanctuaries of the Banished. You can find the one on Cinder Islet just outside the door of the Sanctuary. However, you’ll need to acquire a Sanctuary of the Banished Key to read the other two on Brimstone Rock and Flame’s End.
The journal at Brimstone Rock will be resting on a plinth inside its Sanctuary and the journal at Flame’s End will be sitting on a rock inside its Sanctuary.
Servant's Oath Garrison
With all three journals read, it’s time to sail to Servant’s Oath Garrison. You’ll need to search a Reaper Parrot inside the inner Garrison. Specifically, you’ll find it in a painting hung in the Office Room just next to the Vault on the lower level of the Garrison.
If you’ve read the journals, and completed the Commendations needed to speak with Duke, you can then interact with the painting and pull a latch.
The painting will slide away, allowing you to reach behind for a Mysterious Ancient Object. Leave the Garrison and sail back to Duke. The object you retrieved is a Quest Item, so you don’t need to worry about losing it on your way back.
Return to Duke
Deliver the Mysterious Ancient Object to Duke, and after a brief cutscene, you will unlock the Duke Shipmate Trinket and complete Ducal Disciple.
With Super Smuggler, Clandestine Contact, Trader of Banished Tablets, Smuggler of Banished Keys, and Ducal Disciple complete, you can return to Lottie and finish the Friends in High Places Commendation.
Friends in High Places
Sail on over to Crescent Isle in The Shores of Plenty and speak with Low-Tide Lottie. You’ll find her in her Smugglers’ Hideout in the hidden storage chamber on the island. Select the last dialogue option about Duke. You will uncover that there is someone above him, someone more powerful, and they are interested in meeting you. Lottie will give you the password you’ll need to convene with them and hint at their whereabouts: Sea Dog’s Tavern.
Sea Dog's Tavern
Now that you have the password, you can set sail for Sea Dog’s Tavern at the map coordinates K-12. You won’t find this island on your Map Table. Just look for a towering stone island with a large wooden Tavern in the middle of the map.
Dock your ship and make your way up to Sea Dog’s Tavern. Just next to the large wooden doors to the Tavern is a ladder that leads to the top of the island. At the top, you’ll find a locked door surrounded by purple candles.
Interact with the door to knock and provide the password. The door will open, and you’ll find someone inside waiting for you. Speak with the mystery figure, and after the conversation ends, you will complete the Friends in High Places Commendation and unlock the Gift of the Widow curse.
