One of the many commendations you can complete during The Quest for Guybrush Tall Tale is the ‘Clearing the Air’ commendation. You can start working on the commendation as soon as you arrive at Mêlée Island during this Tall Tale.

If you need help completing the rest of The Quest for Guybrush Tall Tale, check out our entire walkthrough here.

If you are just looking to complete ‘Clearing the Air’ and dispel the cursed fog enveloping Mêlée Island, your first step is to make your way to Mêlée Island!

Clearing the Air Commendation

To complete the Clearing the Air commendation and dispel the cursed fog enveloping Mêlée Island, you’ll need to pour a special potion into the fire on top of Lookout Point. However, before you can do that, you’ll need permission to attempt the Three Trials and collect three items for Corina.

Speak with Corina

As soon as you step foot on Mêlée Island, pass Scumm Bar to Low Street and meet Corina in The International House of Mojo. She will instruct you to meet with the Pirate Leaders in the Scumm Bar.

Speak with the Pirate Leaders

Head to Scumm Bar and talk with any of the Pirate Leaders. Tell them you’ve met with the Governor and are ready to undertake the Trials. They will tell you about the Three Trials. However, they also mention you need to clear the fog before partaking in them. You’ll want to speak to Corina about that.

I met the Governor. I'm ready to undertake the Trials.

Speak with the Corina

Go back to The International House of Mojo and let Corina know you have permission to do the Three Trials. She will then give you a list of items you need to collect that will help you during the Trials.

If you find the three items and give them to Corina, she will brew a potion you can use to clear the fog.

I've got permission from the Pirate Leaders!

Purchase the Treasure Map

The first item you need is the Treasure Map. You need to purchase the Treasure Map from Citizen of Mêlée. However, you don’t have any Pieces o’ Eight. Talk with Citizen and ask if he is willing to trade. He asks if you can get him a sea chart signed by Governor Guybrush.

My coin pouch is empty. Could I trade for your map?

To find the sea chart Citizen wants, go to the first floor of the Governor’s Mansion. On either side of the staircase are bookshelves. Pull out each book until you find one titled ‘The Time I Blew Up LeChuck.’ Once you find it, examine it, tug on it, and it will fall to the ground. Upon falling, it will reveal Guybrush’s Signed Sea Chart.

Pick it up and give it to Citizen of Mêlée. He will then let you purchase the Treasure Map.

Purchase the Mighty Pirate Sword and Rubber Chicken

The second and third items you need are the Mighty Pirate Sword and Rubber Chicken. Both are for sale in the General Store. However, you still don’t have any Pieces o’ Eight. Talk to the Storekeeper and ask him about credit. He will then give you a Blank Credit Note that you need to be signed by the Governor.

I'm low on funds. Do you offer credit?

Head back to the Governor’s Mansion and up the stairs to Guybrush. Pickpocket him and use the Storage Crate Key you get on the small footlocker next to the door. Inside, you’ll find a Captain’s Inkwell.

Put the inkwell on Guybrush’s desk and return downstairs to pick up the Writing Quill. You can find it on the table near the large picture of Guybrush. Place the Writing Quill on the desk, and you will be ready to forge Guybrush’s signature.

Equip the Blank Credit Note from your Quest Radial and place it on the table. Then, interact with the note to forge a Signed Credit Note. Pick up the Signed Credit Note and give it to the Storekeeper. Now that the Storekeeper has a Credit Note, you can purchase both the Mighty Pirate Sword and Rubber Chicken.

Speak with Corina

Now that you have all three items, you can return them to Corina and give them to her. She will brew a potion for you that you can use to clear the fog. Pick up the potion from Corina and head to the top of Lookout Point.

Pick up Mojo Potion of New Horizons

Clear the fog

Once at Lookout Point, approach the fire with the potion and interact with it. You will pour the potion into the fire, which will cause a green haze to spill out of the fire, only to be sucked back in with the fog that covered the island.
