Now that the mysterious Client has revealed themselves, they are seeking help from interested pirates to advance their grand plan. To offer your service, you’ll need to sail to Flintlock Peninsula and meet with them. However, before you can progress the mysterious tale unfolding in The Devil’s Roar, you must first complete several requirements related to the Smugglers’ League and the Client.
Complete all the Client's requests
To complete all the Client’s requests, you will first need to unlock several Commendations related to the Smugglers’ League.
The Commendations you must complete before you can begin working on the Client’s requests are:
- Clandestine Contact
- Trader of Banished Tablets
- Smuggler of Banished Keys
With those Commendations complete, you can talk to the Client and begin to work on the Ducal Disciple Commendation.
Speak with Client
Sail over to Flintlock Peninsula and speak with Duke. You can find them in the West cave of the island. After talking with him, he will direct you to read three of Belle’s journals that she’s left behind at the Sanctuaries of the Banished. As he mentioned, he doesn’t have the complete picture yet and is hoping the journals can fill in some gaps.
Read Belle's Journals in all three Sanctuaries of the Banished
Belle has left a journal at each of the three Sanctuaries of the Banished. You can find the one on Cinder Islet just outside the door of the Sanctuary. However, you’ll need to acquire a Sanctuary of the Banished Key to read the other two on Brimstone Rock and Flame’s End.
Belle's Journal of the Dark Widow
You can find Belle’s Journal of the Dark Widow just in front of the door to the Sanctuary of the Banished on Cinder Islet. It reads:
Fate led Captain Briggsy to find nine of the banished constellations on her hunt for the High Temple of the Ancients.
We saw another when Captain Flameheart unearthed the lesser Temples – the Bat was revealed.
But now, for the first time, we see all sixteen, arranged around the compass. An inner and outer circle.
We know that the Enchanting Widow, the Spider, lured the Carefree Prince to his doom and put herself on the throne of the Ancients.
However, the Fair Panther, her own daughter, discovered her crimes and tried to bring her to justice.
Belle's Journal of the Veil
You can find Belle’s Journal of the Veil inside the Sanctuary of the Banished on Brimstone Rock. It reads:
Some of this story was put together before we had the full picture. With the addition of these new heavenly revelations I hope we can add the missing pieces.
We can see here that the Widow had help. The Stingray and the Scorpion. Her generals, perhaps? Or admirals? A triumvirate of poisonous creatures.
But Flameheart must know most of this, too. He has unravelled secrets and treasures we have yet to see.
His fiery red Orb whispers to him. I Wondered if it was that hue because the SErvant made it so, but now I wonder if it was part of the prison all along.
Something trapped by clouds of red, like the Shroud itself. Can it be that something here represents that power?
But what of the others? Why is a parrot important to this story?
Belle's Journal of the Unending Flame
You can find Belle’s Journal of the Unending Flame inside the Sanctuary of the Banished on Flame’s End. It reads:
There are still things to be unravelled here. Is the all-seeing hand an oracle of some sort? If so, does it represent the Orb? I am unsure.
But it seems the Panther trapped those she would banish in The Devil’s Roar using the Shroud, which I now believe is represented by a parrot – the Scarlet Macaw.
Yes, a red bird that wraps its wings of the fire around the whole area. It’s an important piece of their history.
These Sanctuaries were sealed. But their floors reveal the importance the Ancient people placed on directions and their stories of myth.
It allows us to review the constellations left in our sky with a new eye.
Servant's Oath Garrison
Now that we have the complete picture, we can piece together that we need to look for the Scarlet Macaw at one of the ‘Twin Encampments’ Duke mentioned earlier.
With all three journals read, it’s time to sail to Servant’s Oath Garrison. You’ll need to search a Reaper Parrot inside the inner Garrison. Specifically, you’ll find it in a painting hung in the Office Room just next to the Vault on the lower level of the Garrison.
If you’ve read the journals, and completed the Commendations needed to speak with Duke, you can then interact with the painting and pull a latch.
The painting will slide away, allowing you to reach behind for a Mysterious Ancient Object. Leave the Garrison and sail back to Duke on Flintlock Peninsula. The object you retrieved is a Quest Item, so you don’t need to worry about losing it on your way back.
Return to Duke
Deliver the Mysterious Ancient Object to Duke, and after a brief cutscene, you will complete the Commendation and unlock the Duke Shipmate Trinket.
