Getting lost in the world of Sea of Thieves is incredibly easy to do. Distractions fill the horizon, from circling flocks of seagulls above shipwrecks to beached Messages in a Bottle. While most of these distractions will reward you with a fun adventure, they generally offer little reward in terms of treasure.
With Season 11, all that changes! You can now find some of the best treasures the Sea of Thieves offers by giving in to these distractions and leaving your voyages behind!
Changes to the Emergent World
The emergent world of Sea of Thieves is now more lucrative than voyages if you know where to look! While most voyages are predictable and on-demand, they offer less valuable treasures unless you do one of the more difficult Raid Voyages. In contrast, emergent activities are less predictable and not on-demand but offer more valuable treasures than voyages.
The emergent activities you can find that will reward you with high-value treasure are:
- Emergent Skeleton Captains
- Skeleton Orders
- Messages in a Bottle
- Shipwrecks
Emergent Skeleton Captains
Emergent Skeleton Captains, including Ashen Guardians, now drop King’s Bounty Skulls upon defeat. You cannot find these skulls on any voyage or during a World Event. They also drop Gold Pouches that contain 1,000 to 1,500 Gold!
A Wrathful King’s Bounty Skull is worth about 5,100 Gold, and an Ashen King’s Bounty Skull is worth about 5,8000 Gold.
You can find Emergent Skeleton Captains randomly on islands across the Sea of Thieves. They are mainly on the beaches, making them easy to spot!
Skeleton Orders
While an Ashen Guardian will still drop a Quest that leads to an Ashen Chest, Skeleton Captains will drop an X Marks the Spot Map to the same island that leads to a King’s Chest, Reaper’s Chest, Reaper’s Bounty Chest, Stronghold Gunpowder Barrel or Resource Crate filled with Chainshot, Cooked Food, Wood, and more!
Messages in a Bottle
Messages in a Bottle now contain the following Quest types:
- X Marks the Spot
- Riddle Quests
- Trade Good Quests
- Cargo Runs
- Bounty Quests
- Merchant Contracts
Each Quest type will reward you with high-value loot. You can even discover a Box of Wonderous Secrets from an X Marks the Spot Quest or Riddle Quest! The Quests are also much less predictable than Quests from voyages, so, for example, you could receive an X Marks the Spot Quest with ten Xs on it!
Shipwrecks
You can find both regular and Ashen variants of King’s Chests and King’s Bounty Skulls inside Shipwrecks.
A King’s Chest is worth about 3,100 Gold, and an Ashen King’s Chest is about 3,800 Gold.
As mentioned, a Wrathful King’s Bounty Skull is worth about 5,100 Gold, and an Ashen King’s Bounty Skull is worth about 5,8000 Gold.
You can also still find Messages in a Bottle inside shipwrecks, which are worth checking!
